Hi Everyone,

Anyone know where to get some really good "freshly made" Greek food. I went to a new place a few blocks from my house yesterday that opened up about 3 weeks ago and sadly it was subpar. To be fair tho, I only had a lentil soup and hummus but IMO the hummus tasted like something I could get premade in a supermarket as did the soup. It has to be in NJ 'cause we want to stay local.

There's also a West Indian place in Hackensack that is not bad but I'd like to try something different.

I prefer places that have food that is so tastey, that it is like someone's Grandma is in the back cooking it. Unfortunatley, restaraunts of anykind along those lines are hard to find.

Thanks again!!!

Cool... Sparta Taverna it is!!!

Thanks!

One of my favorite places to go is Bella Italia over on Main St. too. The owner/head chef always goes table to table to make sure everyone is enjoying their meals and everything always tastes like "Grandma" was slaving away at a hot stove. I've been going there for 13 years.

I'll try Luca's but I'm looking for West Indian food... not Indian food. West Indian is more or less all foods from the Carribean. I've tried Indian food a few times and IMO from the places that I've eating at, I'd only eat Indian food prepared from someone's own kitchen. HINT, HINT for my Indian clientel!!! =) wink, wink, nudge, nudge

Indian restaurants that I've been to either make horrible food or subpar food but anything that I've ever had directly from an Indian person's own kitchen was superb. Everything is so fresh and you can really taste all of the herbs and spices. (provided that the hot spices down burn your tastebuds =)..... )

I like finding those little nooks that is off the beaten path because the busy places usually aren't consistent on really busy nights. They're just cooking and tossing things onto a plate. They usually lack flavor or are over cooked. It's a lot better when it's owner operated because they know what they want their customers to eat.

If you have time over the weekend, there is a place in Carlsdadt (I think) that is called "Annabella's". I like pork but not American pork (too dry and/or tasteless IMO) and they make a pork loin that just sits in a pool of gravy. The toast up your hoagie and sop up some of the gravy and layer on the the pork. To kick it up a notch, throw on some brocolli rabe and maybe ask for a side of gravy to dip it in. I don't think there is another place anywhere near here that makes a sandwich like them. Take your family and sit in. I guarantee you if you like pork, you'll love their sandwiches.

I don't remember the name of the street but it's the same street as Terrace in Hasbrouck Heights but the name changes down that way.
