does any one know how to replace the old (original ) Verizon Fios router with one off the shelf? I just purchased a new Amped wireless router, to replace the original Fios one. When i get it all connected, I don't have the internet. When i going to the router setting, i notice that is says waiting for IP address. But never gets one. I've tried to clone the MAC address from the old router, but still nothing. Thanks for any help.

I know it is a bit more complicated than just adding the new router. I was going to use an old linksys in place of the actiontec and eventually decided against it.

Why are you replacing it? Speed/connectivity issues? If it is speed related, verizon has a file download or you can use Tcp optimizer to set up your computers for higher speed. I am not sure which one did it for me but I went from 2MB down to 5MB down on torrent downloads.

If it is connectivity, unplug the main battery for a few minutes and then plug it back in.

I'm assuming the VZ issued router is an Actiontec? If so, is the ActionTec connected to the ONT via Coax or Ethernet?

Yep its an Actiontec and is connected via Ethernet. I only have internet service from Fios.

The wireless on the router is very weak on the other side of the house, and i have several N devices.

Ok, your setup isn't on the MoCa protocol. Try this:

I'm sure you performed most of the steps, but releasing the WAN IP might be the showstopper. Give it a try.

I just installed a Cisco ASA Firewall to my FIOS ONT.

You need to call VZ and ask them to release the DHCP lease. Then you can either DHCP the WAN IP from VZ or pay for a static.

But like I said, VZ needs to release the DHCP bind. You cant.

Was it just a standard tech call to verizon? Where you talk to the guy and he does it when your on the phone or is it one they put in several "ticket" to get it done.
Just wanted to find out before i call.
