I have a situation with a dog that my sister in law owns and I am not sure how to get it resolved. My sister in law who is a complete momo (might as well let it be known that I can't stomach her) owns a dog that is blind, losing his hair, and can barely walk. The dog has to be euthanized and my sister in law finally understood this last night and yours truly has been nominated to take the dog Saturday morning to be euthanized. The problem is that I am not sure where I should take him because I do not want my name attached to this suffering dog. The dog was taken care of but he should have been euthanized a long time ago and there may be some that may view this dog being kept alive as animal cruelty. I do not want to be labeled as such when I take this dog in but I know this dog will thank me for putting him out of his misery.

I have been going through hell these past two weeks with my mother in law in the hospital and now I have to handle this mess too. Can someone recommend a place for me to go or does anyone know someone I could call or how I could handle this? The dog is in Whitestone and I live on Long Island. Please help.

Sorry to hear!:(
Any veterinarian will euthanize the dog for a fee. You can explain the situation to them, but of course your sister in law will have to go with you. If you take the dog on your own, and tell them he does not belong to you they may refuse to put the dog down due to possible litigation.
Once again, I am very sorry this is happening.

I do have to say though, that I understand how your sister in law may be feeling. I went through something similar with my first dog. I didn't want to put him out of his "misery" just because he had lost his hearing, and then his sight.:( I loved that dog so much, and felt that it was not my place to end his life. His vet told me that Uma was not in pain just old. He did tell me when the day came that Uma stopped eating & drinking water I should then have him euthanize. That is what actually ended up happening.;( Twenty five years later, I still mourn his passing....
Your sister in law may be a "momo", but please cut her a little slack with this one.

Take the dog to my hospital in forest hills and the doctor on will humanely euthanize the animal. They will charge you the fee but they will do what is needed for this dog.

Dr. Cooper:

Thank you so much. I really do not want to sign the paperwork for the dog because honestly I do feel that what my sister in law has done with this dog is animal cruelty. I had to go into their apartment to take my mother in law to the hospital and I see this animal on his side with his legs up in the air with little to no hair and I just sat there in awe. Last night I think she finally understood that the dog must be euthanized.

Dr. Cooper, if I call tomorrow can I make some type of arrangements to bring him in Saturday morning? The dog weighs about 15 pounds and I do not think my sister in law will have the dog cremated. Please let me know and thanks again.

Hey Awi:

I might be a little hard on my sister in law but "momo" has to do with more than just the dog LOL. I will ease up on her a little because her mother (my mother in law) is still in the hospital and I probably do need to cut her some slack.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe, I figured as much!lol I have a few of those around. Makes you a little insane to have to deal with them. So I do understand. Trust me I try to stay the h double hockey sticks away from them.

BTW, reading your description of the condition to Dr. Cooper I can see why you are upset with "momo". Sounds like this dog is in really bad shape.:( My goodness "legs up in the air". Never heard nor seen anything like that.

When I saw this animal which looked like a dog I nearly cried. I am just scared. I do not want to get into any trouble because of this dog's condition because I had nothing to do with it but he needs to be put out of his misery.
