NEED ADVICE :Long Island School Districts

Ok so as many of you know I have been looking for a house in Suffolk for the last few months. I'm at the end of the road going to put in some offers this weekend and see what happens, my concern is the school districts. I have done some research but I want to hear from people who live out there. I am kind of torn between a few houses in different areas and different school districts.

At first I was thinking about this house in Coram because it was the cheapest and a pretty decent house but it's in Longwood schools which I hear mixed things about it. There is also 3 in Sachem which I know is very good 1 in Lake Ronkonkoma, and 2 in Farmingville 1 is very cheap and the other 2 are in the middle and top of my price range. I know Sachem is very good really what I'm asking is about Longwood.
Any input would be appreciated.

Longwood is great until the high school I hear but like I allways sayed. I put alot of time into my kids life so the know what's right and wrong bad parents make bad kids jmo but for you my friend loodwood sucks just becuze I don't want you never me at all ha ha ha

My son is in 1st grade the teacher called every week to give me updates on how my son is doing she was the best teacher so far and he is in longwood

Like Jeremy said, Longwood has great elementary. Great programs and extra help. They also have free Pre-k through a lottery.
My daughter went there till 2nd grade. She came out of kindergarten reading..

Out of Longwood's elementary's, they say west middle island is the best.

Also, Sachem is good, but I wouldn't say Very good.

I also agree it's the effort you put into your kids that makes the difference.

have you checked out lindenhurst yet.i loved the elementary school and the middle school.son just starting hs so i dont know about it yet.

A girl I dated lives in Longwood. She liked grammer school, but said that high school was pretty bad.

Wow! Longwood is pretty far from Queens. Hope you don't have to commute to the city.

How many beers have you had today? That made about as much sense as George Bush. LOL I'm glad to hear at least the younger grade schools are good. My kid is 3 so by the time he is in high school it could be a totally different world out there so I won't worry until the time comes.

is the Lake Ronkonkoma house in the Connetquot school district?

No it's Sachem. I have seen some houses in Connetquot but never really got any feedback on it when I asked about it. Do you know if it's good or bad?

Taxes are too damn high man I'll be back and forth all the time I'm not disappearing..big things in the future :sgrin:

Yea bro I checked out some houses there taxes were all like 9 grand plus that's way too much for me I don't even wanna be in the 6's but hey that's how it is. Most of the houses I'm considering are about 6800 a couple are a little less.

Thanks to everyone for giving your input.. even you Jerl lol. I definitely put lots of time into my kid I am home w/ him pretty much every day 3 days a week by myself.

Unfortunately most of these houses do not have the huge yard I originally wanted when moving to LI but F it it is what it is ..less maintenance lol. I'll definitely be having some kind of get together w/ all my MR people though!

I attended schools is Connetquot for my whole life, it's a really good school district. 7 elementary schools to keep classes small, after school programs, high standardized test scores, gifted and talented programs, good sports teams, high graduation rate, safe, good disciplinary policies, etc. They might not do this now, but when I was in high school they paid all of my college application fees and required all students to take SAT prep courses. Pretty much every class (aside from like...gym, health and weird electives) I took were Advanced Placement, and the district paid all of the fees. The only thing is there's kind of a social class divide in the high school. Since it's such a large district, it includes Oakdale, Bohemia, a tiny bit of West Sayville and most of Ronkonkoma, and there's a huge difference is family income (for example, houses in Idle Hour, an area of Oakdale, rarely go for less than $1 million, while there are trailer parks in parts of Bohemia). I made friends that lived all over the district, but some people struggled with it.

I have a cousin that recently graduated from Longwood high school, and he was miserable. He's an extremely bright kid, but almost didn't graduate because of all of the bullying. Just some food for thought.
