So, it's time to re-build my resume and get out in the world and find a real job. Sucks because I just got my criminal justice degree, yet I know no field in that law is hiring locally to where I live...sooooo.... I'm about to start my resume over and try to find a good new career. I wanted to ask if anyone knows and could share a a good web site, app, video, information center or any information database on building and putting together a professional resume? Any help is appreciated... Thank you

on career builder they list site a website that you can submit your resume to that checks it, but I don't know how good it is because I never used it. There are people that do resume consulting, but you usually have to pay (IMO it's worth it though).

Hijack, you do any IT resumes? If so, I might be interested in your services.

Ryan, try youtube, or google the job you're looking for appended with the word 'resume'. I actually just re-did my resume, but (as above) im in IT, so I cant really help you unless you are in the same field.

Good luck, man.

I don't specialize in IT, but can take a look at the structure and everything for you. I have been building and servicing computers for nearly 12 years ;).

I'm more of a business guy, but send it over free of charge to MR members and if someone wants to donate frags for my service I won't say no :) lol.

I just had 4 intense interviews with ADP, boy was that fun.

adp is a good company, mainly in the auto field. One thing i will say with a resume, is alot of major companies use a scanner on resumes and are looking for key words, i change mine alot of time to fit certain words they have posted in their ad. i use careerbuilder monster and linked in as well as a couple other's, you could also go to the un-employment building and one of the people there will help you

I'm in HR/recruiting. I've seen tons of resumes and used to help people write them on the side. I've even done them for a few MR members previously.. I'd be more than happy to help.

Resume tips:

Bullet points, short concise summaries of accomplishments and responsibilities
Make sure you're as grammatically correct as possible in your resume.
Spell Check your resume
A short skills list
Relevant work experience. Don't forget you need a good cover letter too; make sure you read the ad and make mention of something in the ad when writing your cover letter.
Hit monster and run through their entire process, it's good stuff believe it or not and keep it updated regularly.
Also create yourself a LinkedIn profile
LAST BUT DEFINITELY NOT LEAST get yourself a GROWN up email: e.g. <first name>.<Last name>@gmail.com or something to that effect.

This is all very good advice. I've seen so many "professionals" with ridiculous emails....

"bong1455"
"shirtlessdrunk"
"lilsexxycutie4u" etc etc.. I'm not kidding. "Yes, we at our Fortune 500 accounting firm would LOVE to hire a shirtless drunk." :banghead:

Further, have someone you know and trust take a look at your resume and ask them to take special care of your grammar, sentence structure, and overall design.
