I'm currently shopping for a new Flat Screen TV! Now there's so many choices LCD, LED & LCD, 3D, Plasma, and etc. I'm not new to flat screen. I currently have 3 in the house but they are pretty basic. Largest I currently have is a 32" Visio.

I would like the size to be from 50-60 1020p 120 Hz and possibly Smart with 3D features. Trying to keep the purchase under $1000

Most of us own a flat screen, and curious if your purchase was because of price! What do you look for in a flat screen? What brand do you recommend? Or what is on your no list and why? Would you buy a refurbished?

Appreciate your input!

Hello,

I prefer LED backlit as I believe it produces that best picture. I love Samsung brand, but their smart TV's are very pricey! Recently, I bought a Vizio smart TV 32" for just over $200 and really like it. I would strongly recommend buying from Costco. If you don't like the picture, screen, remote or anything else you can return within 90 days of purchasing, no questions asked.

Good luck!

I was also looking at the Samsung, but agree yes they are pricey! Looks like Walmart have the lowest price also, and they too take returns as long you have your receipt. It's a toss up with a Visio 50" LED Smart (New) or Visio 55" LED SMART 3D refurbished $30 difference.

I agree on the backlit LED TVs. We have a 46 inch Samsung Smart TV and it's incredible. We bought ours the weekend after Thanksgiving and saved a decent amount of change.

Plasma uses much more power, also.

Samsung and lg are hands down the two best manufacturers of led tvs , plasmas are a dead technology only for the rich ! Greatest picture ever but the tv wont last more than 5 years and after 3 its already burning out , if i was a millionare i would definetly buy plasma because 600hz refresh rate is amazing but not worth it for the regular consumer , stick with led samsung or lg and look for a good deal on the size u want , ive had mine for about 4 years and its perfect still its a samsung 40 inch led 120hz

I got a TOSHIBA 42" LED SmartTV (with apps) and 3D capable for $400 on ebay w/ warranty more than a year ago and still working like a charm,
don't buy a PLASMA TV not even 90% OFF

The newer plasmas with high refresh rates are fine. I have a 60" Panasonic plasma with a 600hz refresh rate for almost 2 years now.

The problem is a plasma will burn out within 5 to 7 years its the nature of the technology and theres nothing you can do about it , every time you turn the tv on and off the light becomes a little more dim eventually burning out completely

I've had a Visio for several years and very satisfied. So I purchase from Sam club a 50" Visio LED-LCD SMART 1020 120MHz it seem the Samsung cost a lot more and there rating comes in second after the Visio. I'm happy with my choice.

Woot.com regularly sells HD flatcreens, for very low prices. Granted, they're refurbished, but I got my last one (a Sanyo 42") for $279 a little over a year ago, and I'm very happy with it. I've also gotten good deals on Philips and Vizio from Amazon.
