I have a literally brand new galaxy s3 that I bought off ebay two months ago that was supposed to work with ATT. However, the buyer never mentioned that it will not be supported by the ATT network and now I have learned it has a bad esn. No scratches, brand new condition.

Is it bad that I had to google this to figure out what GSM and CDMA meant? lol. Its GSM because originally it runs on the ATT network

Just an FYI, no US carrier will activate a phone with bad ESN.

Correction, it appears Cricket and/or MetroPCS might activate.

If you go on xda forums there is a mod you can do to unlock tmobile bands and run fully on tmobile with no issues.

If its unlocked then yes you can use it on tmobile. My tmobile note2 has a bad esn(bought it like that) so it doesn't work with the original carrier but I was able to use it on att with no issues

I paid someone to unlock it and it wouldn't unlock....

Ok it seems if you had tmobile phone you can enable att bands with some modding. But if its a att phone it can support tmobile bands. Jusy unlock the phone and pop in the tmobie sim and change the apn settings and you should be good to go. I had a note 2 so its alittle different as far as modding.

Bad ESN, are you talking about a sprint/verizon phone?
If it's an AT&T phone, there is no ESN, or are you talking about imei?
If you bought it on ebay, file credit card dispute. You got scammed. I have no idea how you didn't figure it out in 2 months.

Well I was on my own to figure it out and I eventually did when it wouldn't unlock. Anyway, a friend told me the disputes have to be between 30 days so I don't have time to waste discussing it with ebay.

Anyway your probably right, it is probably imei or esn. to me sounds the same
