  1. Air intake on Turboflotor...

Mogo and Fisheye, thanks for the input, but this thread is pretty old, and i have since fixed my problem. i took the thing completely apart and scraped the venturi intake, it was full of calcium buildup. I have done this every six months and no more problems, works better than ever... Thanks...
  2. Need to lower ph fast...

Seamaiden makes good points... Just because it is above 8.3 does not mean, as Seamaiden stated, that you need to lower it right away. Mine has been peaking about 8.45 just before lights out. In this thread : http://reefs.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=22830&highlight=, Randy, who is a chemist...
  3. Mag Drive Screws?

From what I have learned from all the helpful posts here and at RC, I do have the anodized screws so there is no need to worry. Thanks for all the help, you guys ROCK!!!! :D :D :D :D :D
  4. Mag Drive Screws?

I know I read somewhere about the mag screws rusting and possibly leaching into the tank, but I can't find it anywhere. All I can find is that the pondmasters do this. I have a mag drive 12, do I need to worry? The screws are black and show no signs of rust yet, after about 2 months submersed...
  5. Air intake on Turboflotor...

Also, I did want to mention that I tuned down the feed pump a bit before the excessive clogging, think this is causing it? I tuned it down because it seemed to be making less bubbles at a higher rate.
  6. Air intake on Turboflotor...

Mine is the in sump model. I have since shot hot ro/di water thru the intake pretty much daily now, and what a PITA that is. I'm a little wary of adding vinegar daily. Unfortunately, I can't afford a new skimmer right now, but if this keeps up, I will have to find a way. Pardsie: True, but I...
  7. Air intake on Turboflotor...

Garry: How is that going to lower performance if I am adding more air to the skimmer than without the pump? Not that I don't respect your opinion also, but I have heard the opposite from some other pretty respectable authorities... ????????? Usually when somebody has to say that, then they...
  8. Air intake on Turboflotor...

I have a Turboflotor in my sump with a small air pump feeding the air intake. It was fine for over a year, only clogging the intake once, now in the last 2-3 weeks, the intake has clogged 3 times with salt buildup. Any recomendations on how to alleviate this? Skimmer works great otherwise...
  9. What turns over your sand?

My orange diamond goby(Valencienna puellaris) does a kick butt job of keeping the top inch of sand sparkling white. I have nassarius, conches and cerith, but none of them kept it near as clean before I got the goby. And I've been lucky I guess, because he loves any food I put in the tank.
  10. hermit crab shells

Personally, I feel that once they get too big for their shells, then they're too big for my tank. Because regardless of empty shells in the tank, they will still want that one that is already occupied by your snails. I removed my hermits a long time ago and banished them to the sump. Keeps the...

Hellolights.com has them for $68, but not sure whether you would save depending on shipping... http://www.hellolights.com/175wat10us.html
  12. Sea-Swirl right under lights?

Mine is about 2" below my 55w pc actinics for a year now with no problem...
  13. Anyone keep Brittle Stars?

I do have to ask, is it a red "brittle" or a red "serpent" star, because I have never heard of a red brittle. Do you have pics?
  14. Pro-heat heater placement

Thanks for the replies.... The above is directly from the instructions. This is the less-expensive unit, not the one with the digital readout. I think from the fact that none of you have had any problems, then there is no need for me to worry either. Thanks for all the help.
  15. Pro-heat heater placement

I just purchased 2 titanium pro-heat heaters from Bob at [url]www.reeffanatic.com[/b] , great guy BTW, anyways, it says the heater needs to be mounted vertically. My sump is not deep enough to do this, and still keep it submerged, so I have it at an angle. WIll this cause problems in the...
