  3. Newbie Question

I have an AquaClear 20 (up to 20 gallon) filter on my 5.5 gallon with a minijet 404. Cvp is bang on about the water changes. I was doing 2.5 gallon changes on mine every Saturday, but have since cut back to 1 gallon on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The more rock you can shove in the tank the...
  4. Aquapod 12 gallon 70 watt HQI

Lawdawg, You might want to check out http://www.nanocustoms.com/ they have some pretty sweet setups over there and their prices are reasonable for the packages they have put together. I have heard a lot of great things about the company. I was going to get an AP but decided to do a more...
  5. 10 gallon nano setup.....newbee

I wasn't able to get to the pictures. From the descriptions though, it seems like things should work out pretty well. Sorry for the long delay in replying, I've been busy at work :( Did you get the tank up and running yet??? Keep us updated on your prgress!! Tom
  6. My New 5.5 gal Nano (aka - The Puddle) Large Pic Warning

I didn't see any ingredients listed on the bottle. WHile doing the water change on Saturday, I also swapped out the carbon. I used the AquaClear carbon bag. I intentionally didn't scrub the glas but may be once or twice since then. Today the tank is looking pretty clear. It may be that the...
  7. 10 gallon nano setup.....newbee

Shoe, It sounds like you got a good deal. If you can post a pic that would really help (yes, we do love pics :D) to identify what piece of equipment it is. The deal with light bulbs is that you really have to pay attention to the color temperature. If the fixture is 10k with actinics then...
  8. My New 5.5 gal Nano (aka - The Puddle) Large Pic Warning

I now feel like a total dork!   I believe I have found a major contributor to the issue. A nice big fat bottle of Windex Lavanda sitting rather inconspicuously on my desk (kind of like it was trying to hide). I forgot that it was there and that I had sprayed my desk...
  9. Tank redo plans - New LR

Trido, I agree, you can put cured LR in the tank, though I've found that the ratio should be roughly 1/4 to 1/2 tank volume. I.e. 100 gallon tank = 25 to 50 pounds of LR and things should be okay, more than that and the likelihood of a cycle gets bigger (is that the right way to put it???)...
  10. My New 5.5 gal Nano (aka - The Puddle) Large Pic Warning

Thanks for that info Wade...I'm still a little sketchy on reactors at the moment, besides I keep thinking this is a 75 gallon lol. Just to kind of show you what's going on I've uploaded 2 tank shots. From yesterday The tank was scrubbed, scraped and cleaned as best as I could for this shot...
  11. My New 5.5 gal Nano (aka - The Puddle) Large Pic Warning

Thanks for the info Wade, I didn't realize the flake had so much free nutrients in it  . That sounds like a really good suggestion and I am going to implement that right away! :D A quick question though: do you think I would get a sizable benefit from adding a PhosBan (HOB) to the tank?
  12. My New 5.5 gal Nano (aka - The Puddle) Large Pic Warning

***Waves to Adin*** Well, here are a few thing that are going on. 1. I plopped a really pretty Rainford goby into the tank the other day (I had to get some stuff at the LFS and saw they had one). Before anyone jumps on my case about having 5 fish in a 5.5 gallon tank, all of the fish will...
  13. 10 gallon nano setup.....newbee

First of all :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: The initial cost of setting up a 10 gallon is not all that bad. If you check out my thread (I need to update) at: My 5.5 Gallon Build Log The first few pictures of all the stuff I needed to get up and running. Tank (5.5) - $10.00 - My 15 gallon was...

  15. My New 5.5 gal Nano (aka - The Puddle) Large Pic Warning

Well, I haven't updated this in a while, so I figure I had better hop to it. Several major things have occured since the last posting. First, roughly 6 pounds of rock has been added to the tank. So I am probably somewhere between 9 to 10 pounds worth of rock in the tank and that's close to...
