for 29g you can have any size. i doubt even gigas will get that big that quick so you'd need to evacuate it. i mean, i agree eventually, it'll outgrow even a 300g tank. sure, eventually. but maxima and crocea? the crocea will never outgrow a 29g, physically. and it'll take a loooong time...

i think friendly and knowledgeable staff are the most important first impressions. overall tank care and maintenance as the others noted are also critical. livestock health and the appropriateness of the setting are very telling of the store's experience and how they run their business...

is it only the PC bulbs? do the old bulbs still fire up? (tip: always keep old/previous bulbs as a backup, toss them upon 3rd generation bulbs) if the old bulbs still work, maybe the new bulbs are bad.

agreed, cable ties found in any hardware store are perfect. you could also cable tie the powerhead to a strong magnetic glass scraper to hold it in-place as well.
