Currently I just set up a 180 RR gallon reef tank. I have 300 lbs of live rock as well as 1 inch of live sand for aesthetic looks. I have a 55 gallon sump consisting of 4 chambers. The first chamber has 3 phosban removers with the first 2 containing phosphate remover, and the 3rd containing charcoal. The second chamber contains an H&S skimmer with an external container. The third chamber has a 7" DSB with 20 lbs. of live rock and chaeto plants with the light. The fourth chamber contains a mag 24 return pump with a polyfoam pad to catch debris before returning to the main system. The flow in the aquarium is provided by 2 custom pumps which provide an output of up to 5000 GPH on each side. As for the lighting system, I have 3 250 watt 15K DE lights with 4 96 watt power compact actinics as well as 4 double blue moonlights. The was 75 gallon setup was originally started on 10/21/08 and was transferred to my 180 gallon on 02/07/09. i am trying an experiment on this setup to see how different variables play out. It has been 2 1/2 months so far and only one water change has been done. I used tap water for the water change as well as for top offs. The levels still seem to be pretty consistent and my sps and lps corals still seem to be growing at a steady rate.
