  1. don't cry over spilt water - is salt mix still good

Ditto. Silicone lub is fine. That's what most people use for those O-rings in filters and such. Some use Vaseline, and I think there is a discussion about rather or not the lub will attack the rubber, etc., not realize the fact that there are many types of rubber, and some have different...
  2. Special Request:: HITCHHIKERS

This pic was taken about the same time as the feather duster pic a few posts up, but I never got around downloading it to RDO until tonight.
  3. Help with an ID.....NOW WITH PICS LOL

Actually, it is very similar to what I *above to* post a few weeks earlier on RDO.... I don't know if that would have helped you at all, but here is one of the pic I have (without the ignoring copyright thing...). The whitish areas on the bottom and right side are two pieces of tape that I used...
  4. Iwaki pump plumbing question

It is not that big deal with bulkhead since it give you a bit of room for "un-roundness," but for amatuar DIYer like me, I prefer to make a hole that makes me feel good (but you never see the ugly job anyway :?)
  5. The nightmare that became my latest project

Forget about the dinnar... I think he is sleeping downstair on the sofa tonight.... oh wait... I think that's what he has been doing since his wife got pregn... ;) <good job, Sharkky!>
  6. CHEAP CORALS!!!

Blasto are hardy, and if you don't stress it too much, it should made it... but I really need to see it to make a stronge opinion... As long as you don't give them any incentative to continue to do this to the coral, the price you paid should not be a big issue.
  7. Iwaki pump plumbing question

I used to enlarge a hole on an acrylic tank by using a piece of scrap wood for the pivot hole. Use a clamp to hold the wood in place (can be tricky to do since the tank is a box, and becareful with that clamp! Oh, no, a big scratch! :(). Then you use a hole saw bit (with center drill bit) to...
  8. Ca Reactor + Additives??

In the beginning, you may need to add calcium, since it will take a while for the reactor to get up to full speed (about a week or two). As for the Iodine, it is probably a waste of money all along (my 2 cents). Mag. and Str. is up to you... say if you have a bunch of leftover that you can't...
  9. diy help

I think Sanjay has a DIY plan for a skimmer... anyone has the link?
  10. Mag Pump Tripping GFCI Circuit

Even a brand new Mag/Rio/Eheim can do the trick to GFCI, but if you can get any of them to admit it is defective, you must be a good orator. It can be ignoring esp. if you have other equipment on the same circuit, and the tripping shut them down. Try to put a manual (rocker) switch between the...
  11. Iwaki pump plumbing question

Looking at the following chart, seem like you maybe able to get away with the 30RLXT if the head due to the 3/4 fitting is less than 10 feet... where the 30RLXT intercept with the 40RLT or 18 feet where the 30RLXT intercept with the 30RLT
  12. Iwaki pump plumbing question

Actually backpressure will make the pump more quiet, if I recall my experience correctly... Anyway, you will need a 40RLT to get that flow thru a 3/4. Or you can compromise with about 500 gph and get a 30RLT as Len suggested. With a 30RLXT, you going to get much less than 500 gph with a 3/4...
  13. 10" TGI Filter Housings as carbon / anti phos reactor

Yes, it is reef safe, if you make sure there is no metal screw or spring for the air-relief valve... some filter housings has a red button on the cap with the valve. FWIW, that's what I am using for a calcium reactor (calcium carbonate + CO2 instead of carbon or Rowaphos)
  14. New lighting technology...ever hear of it?

    >...I should put up a starcraft avatar. "Do you want a sponge bath?"
  15. diy help

One of the NRF mod will move this thread for you... People in the DIY forum will be able to help you out on this. DIY skimmer works the same way as commerical skimmer, using the principle that organics has a tendency to stick to air bubble. You can get clear PVC by mail, I think...
