  1. Don't Believe the HYPE! (skimmer discussion)

I'd choose Deltec over a clothing store too. :p One thing Deltec does that H&S doesn't is offer more size configurations. Most H&S recircs are too tall for standard aquarium stands. Deltec offers a solution for that. I think Fritz mentioned ripping out too much nog earlier. I think...

Yes........................... Disaster Disaster will fix laziness (temporarily). Especially reef tank disaster. :D
  3. T5 or Compact Flourescents?

T-5 all the way. T-5 lighting provides more light for less energy consumption. T-5 offers more bulb choices as well.

Herman, If you want to switch your returns to black PVC, I have a bunch left over from my plumbing job.
  5. Check out this awesome copy of a Deltec Ap1004

True and agreed, but I think statements that suggest that this particular DIY skimmer represents a substantial cost savings over a similar sized Deltec is a bit misleading. Sure the Smelltec costs $5K and the DIY costs $1.6K, but you have to figure in the building time, research time, and...
  6. Do most people silicone their cutting board?

Gross, but is that a bad thing? It looks like you released a colony of anearobic bacteria and their by-product. Releasing that stuff into the water column is indeed bad, but if they were left undisturbed, part of my thinking is that they would be beneficial.
  7. Should I build my own tank?

Yeah, Starphire glass is crazy expensive at the retail level. Personally, I'd go with Lee Mar (if it's available in your area), then Miracles, and maybe Aquarium Obsessed. Oh, I forgot to ask, were you going to cut your own glass?

    I'm working on it. :D
  9. Giesemann pics

Thanks guys. I did find a really old pic (Premium Aquatics) of the Eco Plus T-5 via google images. Alas, the Eco has a problem in that the T-5s and MH lamps share the same well. The MH heat gets trapped and shuts off the T-5 ballast. I guess I'll have to call Phil and see if the Infiniti...
  10. Giesemann pics

Does anybody have pics of the Giesemann reflectors found in the Eco and Eco Plus fixtures? There are absolutely none anywhere. TIA Hector

FWIW, I needed a new pump for my Deltec PF600 reactor. The cheapest available option was the DAS needlewheel pump, at least until Finsreef gets their shipment of standard Aquabees. The DAS 2000/1 pump fit perfectly. Strangely enought, my pump came with orange silicone grommets instead of...

It was underpowered. I was using a Mak-4 on it. This was a first generation MRC, and the acrylic was thin. A larger pump may have blown up the body. :D I got my Grotech HEA 200 back. I will be using that to cure my new tank (240g Starphire cube). I'll try to get pics of it running...

That sounds so self destructive. Will do. This can help show my wife that reefing isn't a complete waste of money. :)
  14. Skimmer Thread

The MRC is the only skimmer I have a pic of. This was a first generation skimmer with unfinished edges and thinner acrylic. Subsequent MRC equipment I have seen is constructed much better, but still not great. This particular MRC skimmer was ver fragile. The performance sucked also until I...

Thanks herman, I need to visit Manhattan one day. My sister has a medical practice up there.
