  1. Why do my anemones keep dying?

Sort of off topic- but i've had my BTA for a year and have never fed it once. Its multiplied and grown significantly... In general, I think folks tend to over-feed their systems. I dont buy that you have to feed these animals on a regular basis anything more than good strong lighting...
  2. Anyone use Kent Marine Phytopklex?

What about LiquidLife BioPlankton? It goes in the freezer. I am not sure if it is alive like DTs, but it seemed to fare well in an article in "marine fish and reef" magazine (forgot which issue. i dont have it any longer) Has anyone tried this and compared to DTs?
  3. Technology difference between HQI and Mogul-MH

DSB and Company - Thanks for all the great feedback/comments. If I do go with an AB type of system I guess I'll have to modify the canopy to make it work (EG, take the top off so I can hang the fixture above it). Question DSB -> How heavy would you estimate the AB fixture to be? Have a nice...
  4. Technology difference between HQI and Mogul-MH

Guys - thanks for the inputs/discussion. Basically, in response to your thoughts, Mouse, the reasons for going HQI include CA utility costs.. Where I am, and with the tier of usage I am baselined at - i pay around .28 per kwh (Yeah.. we get screwed here.. great negotiators our politicians...
  5. Feeding Torch Coral

Ive never fed any of my euphillia (three different types of torches, a hammer, and frogspawn).. they are all doing very well and have grown significantly in the last 8 months...not sure feeding them directly is worth the effort.. just my thoughts
  6. Technology difference between HQI and Mogul-MH

Hi Folks - First, a bit of background. I was recently viewing someones reef while on travel and noticed that for what was claimed as 300W (2x150)(over a 65G) of MH lighting seemed to be much (MUCH!) brighter than the 350Watts of MH lighting over my system (3'x2'x2' - 90G). After chatting for a...
  7. Diving in Aruba?!

If you like Reefing.. you'll LOVE Diving! But be forewarned... Diving is a way more expensive hobby than Reefing! (but at least you can combine it with vacations!!) One thing you will notice is that the real reefs have a lot more varied types of life than you'll see in most aquariums.. Lots of...
  8. Power Consumption for Different Lighting Systems

Wow... 0.08 per KWh! Guess what we pay here in CA... of course its tired.. but for the 'average' household a reeftank will knock that usage into the 3rd or 4th tier.. at $0.22 per KWH! (its not hard to do.. they only give you somehting like 350kwh on the 1st tier! geez.. a fridge and freezer...
  9. How to quiet a CPR BakPak

Thanks for the input guys.. After your suggestions I ran a few experiments.. Took the RIO and held it under h20 in the aquarium with the intake hose under water so it couldn't suck air.. Ran quiet. Put the RIO back into the skimmer, plugged up the intake.. ran quiet. Took the muffler off the...
  10. How to quiet a CPR BakPak

I am just now setting up a used CPR MRT that I got from a friend. For those who aren't familiar, this is basically a 11G (or somewhere around there) nano with a built in CPR bakpak on the rear. I'm not sure if it is normal, but the pump that runs it is pretty noisy. Does anyone know if there...
  11. Another aiptasia question-sodium hydroxide?

Not sure about sodium hydroxide, but the ALK part of B-IONIC seems to do the trick! Just inject the sucker right in the middle of the disk and in the next morning he should be GONE!
  12. halide pc combo?

Just converted from 2x96 PC to 2x95 VHO for the actinic supplement to 10k MH bulbs.. I can say with 100% certainly that the VHOs put out much less heat than the PCs... and IMHO the quality of the actinic light is much better (corals have much better color) - just a side benefit so if you are...
  13. Adding B-Ionic to make up water..

Awesome! I think i'll check on that dosing pump! take care and have a good weekend guys!!
  14. Adding B-Ionic to make up water..

Well.. it was worth a try On a similar note.. do most folks dose the different parts of B-IONIC on alternate days, or just add them a few mins apart during the same session? Thanks for the feedback guys!
  15. Adding B-Ionic to make up water..

Just curious... Has anyone tried adding B-IONIC to make up water? Might be a nice way to have it auto-dosed throught the week automatically without the need for a separate dosing pump. I'm just wondering if this would work -> or if it needs marine water in order to dissolve properly. thoughts?
