  1. Recession and the Marine Industry

    Ohio.
  2. Recession and the Marine Industry

Trust me, selling stuff at those prices is NOT something we wanted to do, but it became a necessity. It was either move product or close the store. No other real choice as the utility and rent bills were breathing down the owners neck. Thankfully the people who are buying the coral, are well...
  3. Recession and the Marine Industry

See that is the problem with the area. We tried to do the normal markup and guess what? Absolutely nothing sold. "$23 for a clownfish! You people are nuts!" so we just sat there with an ORA shipment forever. The foot traffic is pretty good for such a small place but what else can we do? We get...
  4. Recession and the Marine Industry

We'd love to do tranship but can't take the risk. We got royally screwed by a LA wholesaler recently and still haven't recovered. We're a very small store (most of you probably have stock rooms larger than our entire store...easily). So when you get HALF of what you order (not even the companies...
  5. Euro-reef's new nano skimmers

Wow that thing is pretty awesome. Love the alloy mesh.
  6. Petco

Well I just went to the local Petco, they were in the process of taking down their marine tanks. Had most of them covered up and the end tanks were being drained. The employee said they'll be switched over to freshwater in the next week or so.
  7. fresh water dip

I've dipped zoanthids for 15 minutes (that one was on accident!) and they lived. Just took a while to open up. My normal dip is about 3-5 minutes for them with Lugols. Everything else gets a ReVive dip in SW.
  8. Petco

Opposite around here really. Freshwater seems to carry the largest store as they recently got into the marine side, with severely overpriced corals. But the thing is, they have a reputation so people will pay (I kid you not here) $150 for a common zoanthid rock there but won't pay $40 for the...
  9. evap rate

I can always tell when my humidifier is out of water. My RO/DI bucket water level falls practically while you're watching it. We have a furnace sized for a home in our apartment, so it just sucks any moisture out of the air very quickly. Doesn't help the heater vent aims right where all my tanks...
  10. Do Acan's Sting Each Other?

After seeing my suppliers stock tanks..... Doubt it. Acan colonies were touching and there were no signs of stinging. They had been together for a couple weeks too.
  11. Secret Suppliers

Tell me about it. I posted a wholesaler wanted ad a couple months ago, and got 5-7 export companies e-mailing me within a couple days.
  12. Secret Suppliers

Twisted I know where you are coming from. I could never get any information on wholesalers so I did all the leg work myself. Granted I've never work with a BIG majority of those I found....at least I found some. If you ever want to trade lists..... Love the FHI boxes too. Funny seeing...
  13. Whats up at PFO?

Octopus skimmers seem to be pretty trendy, and the price is great too! Can't wait to get a couple in. I want to try the NW and Extreme series.
  14. Holiday Coral - Indiana

I go through MyFax, no ink! Much cheaper. Only problem is when the faxes come in upside down.
  15. Holiday Coral - Indiana

I forget where I saw their ad (in some magazine, I read too many) a couple months ago and recently ran across, I believe it was Bob Fenner, mentioning them in a WWM post. Any feedback on them? I've found virtually no information on them. Just looking for expand my resources (limited as it is...
