  1. problems w/ coralline

I would also reccomend a two part calcium supplement to get your Ca and Alk up. In addition, you might take a very small piece of corraline encrusted live rock either from your tank or the LFS and crush it with pliers. Then sprinkle the "seeds" all over your tank. Works like a charm!
  2. strange clown behavior: sick or in heat?

    suggestions for what to do?
  3. strange clown behavior: sick or in heat?

About a year and a quater old, and about half as plump as that
  4. strange clown behavior: sick or in heat?

one more thing - she seems a bit plump, but maybe just well-fed
  5. strange clown behavior: sick or in heat?

I have a pair of tank bred false percs that were aquired as juveniles and seem to have paired off, one growing significantly larger than the other. They now seem to host in my mushrooms but don't stick together as much as they used to. The larger one recently got a clean, horizontal tear in her...
  6. Nitrates are permanent?

I'm curious about the bio wheel. As Sugar said, biowheels are nitrate factories. You will usually hear this explanation: Biowheels and wet/dries house only aerobic bacteria which convert nitrite to nitrate but can't do anything about that nitrate. On the other hand, your live rock has...
  7. Drs. Foster and Smith

I live in the middle of nowhere in New Hampshire and I've ordered fish and inverts from liveaquaria.com about four times. It might have been FedEx's fault, but each time I ordered something about half of the order was either DOA or died within a couple of days. I once had two blue damsels and...
  8. Surge question, pipe sizing and flow

There are some good online plumbing stores, for example www.savko.com has a large variety of PVC pipe and fittings at great prices - you might try that if you decide to go with the surge device.
  9. Found a hairy crab with new live rock

I ere on the side of caution and get him out if you can. I've had a few crabs that made gourmet lunches out of my fish and inverts until I removed them.
  10. Recommend me some interesting, hardy fish and/or corals

People have always loved clowns, and their especially popular right now ever since Nemo came out. Tank bred clowns are pretty hard to kill and pretty easy to come by.
  11. Killer anemone?

Okay, I found it on wetwebmedia, it's a Heteractis aurora. Is he guilty? What does the jury think?
  12. Killer anemone?

The tentacles are serrated like a fern. Each tentacle looks like a small, thin, flat fern leaf. A friend of mine ditched to hobby and left me with him. It's definitely not a coral, and it's moved a few times since I put it in four months ago. Sorry, no picture as he's hidden from view right...
  13. Killer anemone?

It's symettrical, it burries everything except its tentacles and mouth. Everything exposed is a pale green color with a little brown. The tentacles sit flat on the sand and are almost fern shaped. The total diamter is about three or four inches, maybe more, with the mouth occupying about...
  14. Killer anemone?

Seemingly perfect fish have been slowly dissapearing from my 55 gallon tank - here one day, gone the next without a trace. Missing so far: two chromis, two blue damsels, a cardinal, and a yellow tang. Only my two tank bred clowns and my royal gramma basset have made it. The fish started to...
  15. Melting mushrooms :(

Yes, this makes sense. Thanks for the reassurance.
