  1. Moon lights

I think the blue light simulates closely with the moons spectrum at 470, Im not so sure about the blue xmas lights. I put it in there for two reasons. 1. So I could see whats going on in my tank at night and.... 2. My LFS has had tremendous plant growth off of their liverock and they dont add...
  2. Moon lights

Thanks, my partner works at the college in the city where we live and he teaches senic design (builds sets and teaches college students how to build sets for the college theatrical productions), so I'll ask him if the school has any they can spare.
  3. building your own tank....

I just met this guy in the aquarium club that just started in my area, heres his outdoor tank (I think it's 500 gallons with an underground well to heat and cool the water - we live in so. california desert, so in summer it gets really really hot). http://www.wizardscave.com/aquarium.html
  4. Moon lights

I bought a prefab moonlight ($21.00), and installed it on the original mount that came with it to hook it up to a coralife PC lighting hood (it basically slips into one of the leg channels on the front or rear), and turned it on. What I found was that the light was too directed it didnt spread...
  5. Actual Mirror as a reflector?

I asked about this on another forum a long time ago, and the responses in a nut shell that I got were simply that glossy white paint reflected back more light than a mirror. I no longer have the message bookmarked (new computer and all), but it did show a chart of what amount of light reflected...
  6. New JBJ Nano cube coming soon.

Seems like a rip off to me. An extra $69.00 for a second bulb, and a directional return? He didnt mention anything about the overflow or a built in skimmer or anything like that did he? The overflow is lame at best (sorry, but in my opinion it's pretty true), since it allows gunk to buildup...
  7. What can I add to a 20g? + pics of my tank

If you can buy them pre paired, they by all means do so, if thats the fish you really want. But I dont see hardly any mated pairs in the lfs's around here. As far as the green water, Im not sure what you mean by that, are you fighting an algae bloom where your tank is getting covered in algae...
  8. New JBJ Nano cube coming soon.

Im pretty sure I wont be buying it either, heck I have two of them laying around here that Im putting in my garage sale in 2 or 3 weeks, I think resale I'll be lucky to get $10.00 for each.
  9. New JBJ Nano cube coming soon.

I really couldnt imagine it going much above say $130.00, because while they are supposedly going to upgrade the lighting and thus introduce a fan, it's still the same 10 gallon (or 12 gallon if you will) tank, so while upgrading the lighting (still too weak for my liking) and adding a fan (been...
  10. New JBJ Nano cube coming soon.

That makes economical sence sort of: 1. Anyone who wants the upgrade will have to buy a whole new unit. BUT 2. Anyone with an old unit wont be able to buy the new hood and hope it fits on the old tank. I guess when it really hits the store shelves we will find out for sure.
  11. What can I add to a 20g? + pics of my tank

My clowns are fals percs, and maybe I just got lucky, probably did, but I bought a 2 1/2 inch fish and put it in the tank, about a week later I had to tear down one of my tanks, and nowhere to put the 1" false perc so I put it in the 20H tank with the larger clown and they took to each other...
  12. What can I add to a 20g? + pics of my tank

Forget the corals unless they are low light corals. In my 20 gallon I have 2 false percs, 1 firefish, 1 lawnmower blenny. Im at my max if not over my max, but so far everyone is doing nicely. I have several mushrooms of differeing variety, and I have a flowerpot cora (yes, I know I shouldnt...
  13. Quickest way to double lighting in 12G

Yeah, I had a freak out the other night, I just got done changing a filter pad in the aqua clear 500 and sat down to enjoy dinner. Next thing I know I hear this dripping of water sound, and look over to find my stand wet. I think the glass tank has given out, my room mate asks me how long is...
  14. aquascaping suggestions?

The only thing I can add is "dont sacrifice the whole for the individual rock". And what I mean by this is, dont sacrifice the overall asthetics of your tank, to try and show of a couple outstanding rocks. I tried doing this because I felt I had a couple pieces of liverock that really needed...
  15. Coral frag ID request

Cool, well i tried to stick it to a rock usning gel superglue, but that only held for 3 hours or so, then I stuck a wooden toothpick through it and attached it to a rock, and it slid half way up the toothpick in 8 hours, so I wound a rubber band around the tooth pick and tried again. So far so...
