  1. What fish is this?

I must retort, Dizzy is probably correct. More blue spots than I realize. If it is more of an orange w/ blue spots C. miniate juv color phase. If it is yellow w/ less numerous blue spots, than definitly a yellow coney juv. SM lists the yellow juv Coney as a rare color form. Now all we have...
  2. What fish is this?

Found it! SM's book vol II. pg. 37 Cephalopholis fulva, Coney: juv w/ rare yellow, or xanthic color morph. Sorry no digi cam. Bermuda to S. Florida to S. Brazil. I am going on my first scuba trip next spring to Belize. I will try to catch one for you. LOL Hey Dizzy gets a prize for the...
  3. Removing Sand bed - Could I put Live Rock On Glass Bottom?

Still it doesn't add up. With bacteria dieing off all the time, it has to reproduce to contiually die as you say it does. Biological filtration is performed by bacteria, I don't see people yanking out the gravel in their freshwater tanks. They wait for the bacteria to develop before they...
  4. Removing Sand bed - Could I put Live Rock On Glass Bottom?

Uh, if bacteria & organisms do not break down nutrients & waste in nature why don't you go dig your dead dog or a loved one & tell me how familiar they look? Do all the dead fish just "sink to the bottom of the abyss"? I realize these examples are not on the basic nutrient level so consider...
  5. Removing Sand bed - Could I put Live Rock On Glass Bottom?

what's w/ the deal of so many people pulling out their sand beds? What kind of flow were you running? I have run sand beds of the 3-4" depth for over 5 years & have seen better results with than w/o sand. I also siphon the top layer of detritus of the sand like I did in my bare bottom tanks...
  6. Less water changes for Coral only systems?

those are pretty good reasons too. I have yet to see a tank that suffered from correctly done water changes. By correctly I mean, mixing to the same salinity & balancing the temp if needed. It is a good way to add elements back to the water that are depleted. In light of the report on salts...
  7. Less water changes for Coral only systems?

To the originator of this thread, consider water changes to replace finding a skimmer for your nano tank. I operated my 33L w/o a skimmer w/ heavy coral load & 5 small fishes for a year w/o one. What kept my water in check & my corals looking good & growing was water changes. I would mop up...
  8. HQI MH lighting help...

I used the 150 DE from Ushio. I like the color in my corals & growth was good. Osrams have a really nice blue color w/o any actinics. The Ushio could use actinics if needed. I am switching to 20 K 250's for my new reef setup. Hope this helps
  9. What kind of goby is this?

Gee, it is a shame no one collects them. What's the deal w/ fish from around Japan costing so much? Forgive the ig but, I gotta know!
  10. Euroreef ? Mod?

Where does one find the needlewheel skimmers made by Geo. I don't like the ASM's, too cheaply made for the cost. The sharp increase in price by Euro Reef makes them out of range for my business. I don't have about 2500.00 minimum to invest in skimmers right now. I would very much like to...
  11. What kind of Super glue to use!

Dry rocks, pat frag dry w/ towel or cloth. Give it a few seconds. The trick for me was putting enough w/o putting too much. Have fun.
  12. Pulsing Xenias

Set some on a flat piece of plastic or glass. Then just scrape it off & rubberband or superglue to new rocks. I clean mine off the backglass & it is real easy to harvest that way. I just wish I could some blue xenia!!!
  13. newbie-lights

Billyzbear, congrats! You are off to a good start by asking questions so I feel like you are going to do alright. For your intended animal selection PC's will work wonderfully. The bulbs do have to be replaced pretty much once a year, at least, some saying 9 months. I replace my actinics...
  14. squid

Hey GreshamH have you heard who maricultures cuttles? I read in Reef Inverts(Fenner & Calfo) that some public aquariums & unversities captive rear them. None are mentioined by name. Maybe one in CA. Do they have to take one large box by them selves?
  15. I'm so tired of paying full retail!

Wal Mart hasn't raised their prices? Where do you live? It is the highest place to buy milk in West KY.
