  4. berghia babies

hi :) my berghia have just arrived from berghia breeders. they're a good size and seem healthy enough. they're still in their shipping bottle slowly making their way down to the sand. (i have four) i know my fish will leave them alone, but will the peppermint shrimp, (who were previously...
  5. AH CRAP! My favorite online store has been taken over by...

3 years ago i bought that kati and ani ro/di system for my reef from petwarehouse online. only it was too complicated for my feeble brain to figure out. both pieces, never used are still sitting in my stand, close to $300 of useless (to me) stuff. recently i emailed dr's whatever and whatever...
  6. help me understand canister filters

ok. i havent seen LS in the LFS, but i did get some online 3 years ago when i set up my reef. i dont remember where i got it, but it was loaded with life and turned my base rock into LR in no time. i also had LR bought from a former reefer in there with the base rock. it wasnt long before you...
  7. help me understand canister filters

yeah, thats what i'm afraid of, but i'm thinking i'll do one every two weeks. i dont know. gael
  8. help me understand canister filters

ay yi yi i spend SO much money making the wrong decisions. do i just let the filter run then, once i remove the biowheels? and keep in the carbon? the filter pad? or shut the whole thing off? gael
  9. help me understand canister filters

cool. thanks. when i used to come here before, long ago, people werent so nice when someone asked a seemingly stupid question. once i even followed someones advice about glueing an anemone (YES! AN ANEMONE) to a rock! only to find out later that this person was famous for doing that to...
  10. help me understand canister filters

well. i had a wet/dry system in my Fo tank but it died (last year) and i replaced it with two skilters at the time because of money constraints. they worked for a time, and i got comfortable with them and kinda forgot that i'd meant them to be temporary. last month i began to have problems with...
  11. help me understand canister filters

OOOOHHH, alright. (slaping my forhead with a 'doh!) i gotcha now. i suppose i should be at a FO site asking these questions. what is a good FO site? i only come here because of my other tank being a reef. (of sorts) :) gael
  12. help me understand canister filters

by this you're talking about inside the canister? the part that holds the carbon in it? its like a plastic sleeve, filled with carbon, covered in a fiberous sleeve, mounted inside the canister. the directions said to pull it all out, rinse the sleeve, replace the carbon, and replace the fiber...
  13. help me understand canister filters

thank you for the link. my tank is 150gallons, prolly 80lbs of rock, perhaps more. its very porous stuff. the gravel is crushed coral, 150lbs. i am re-starting my fo tank which i somehow managed to almost kill off last week. i'd consider adding LR from my 'reef' tank, but i've currently got an...
  14. help me understand canister filters

no, i didnt know, so thanks for telling me. i think the instructions said to rinse them off monthly and replace. i thought that if (when) i rinse them, it should be in (perhaps) the water i've removed from the tank during a water change. yes? no? the instructions didnt say... gael
  15. help me understand canister filters

...hi, thanks for the reply. my tank had LS, until recently...the rock may be live, its been in there for 3 years. there are some small creatures on it, but i wouldnt say its teeming with life. i will be adding a few scoops of sand from my reef tank to this tank in the next few days. gael
