I had the same problem as rBeOeBf. My tank temp shotup for about 2 days before it finally lowered back down. Once the coral started wasting away it wouldn't stop until now, I only have about 4 polyps left and it has been this way for about 3 months with no new growth.
I loved this coral when...
took forever, but I finally found it again and was able to take some pictures. The large copper looking cirlce in some ofthe pics is a penny for size reference. Still looking an ID if anyone can help.
I found this snail on my glass last night and I am wondering if it is good or bad. I have since thrown him in the sump just to be cautious. I don't have any pics of this yet, but I will try tonight.
It is slightly smaller than a pea and it is not a standard snail shape. So it is not shaped...
This is a great topic for a thread. I have thought about doing this same thing, but the financial risks have me too scared. If it takes anywhere between 10K-40K to start and get running, how does one recover from failure. I work as an IT admin and if I spent 2-3 years of my life working on a...
Sure looks like an open brain to me. I have seen these in multiple of colors. The one I have was actually a bright mixed green, then it bleached and now that it has returned it is much more of a brownish green.

I forgot to mention.
Torch = Euphyllia glabrescens
Although the torch in the picture looks strange, almost like a buble tip anemone. The torch I have has thinner tentacles. I have attached a picture of the Torch I have for reference, maybe they are just different morphs? In the picture, the...
Here are some of your answers
Frogspawn = Euphyllia divisa
Mushrooms = Actinodiscus sp formerly Discosoma
Toadstool leather = Sarcophyton alcyonidae
You have one picture without a common or scientific name and this looks like a open brain coral.

I have been trying to weed out some of the softies and some of the LPS corals....anyone want to trade for some frogspawn, cabbage or green nepthea?
I have 2 400w Blueline MH ballasts running 10K bulbs and then 2 96w PCs running 7100 bulbs.
So far I am not the happest with the Blueline...
I use the Nikon Coolpix 990 with the standard lense. It comes with a standard zoom and then a 4X digital zoom after that. I was using this digital zoom to get the close ups. In order for the camera to be able to focus properly, the specimens have to be close to the front of the tank.

I will be trying this tonight.
The whole reason this began was because I updated my sump and return pump. Now my pump which is a Velocity T3, is pumping way too much for my single overflow to handle. Luckily I placed a ball valve after the pump and I have had to back this off quite a bit so...
tpro,
Actually the sound coming from the water pouring into the overflow box is a separate issue and one I plan on working out exactly how you suggested by raising the standpipe a little hiogher.
Do they sell this float you were speaking of online? I just haven't heard of anything like...
