  1. The Lightning Project - Matt Pedersen (Appointed Breeder)

what an awful post, and pathetic blog... obviously some hidden agenda's somewhere... i would like to know what the original writer of all that nonsense has done for the hobby themselves... i am guessing a whole lot of jack squat... this hobby is full of people who cant back up their claims...
  2. Dehumidifier

They absolutely will not cause ur tank to evaporate quicker... ur tank will evaporate at its own pace pending a few factors... but having a dehumidifier is not one of them... though if u keep your tank in an area where ventilation is not suffice, having one helps with air moisture buildup...
  3. Urchins

If this helps at all, I have had many a urchins of all kinds... the last urchin I had was a pencil and it ate my zoas like it was its job... jus my experience as not all are necessarily the same... GL
  4. Nitrates

good call bud... its never a good thing to act out of impulse in this hobby... slow it down, do some research, and gather some opinions and make a educated decision on what to do next... GL my friend :)
  5. What is the best level for dkh?

ime, you dont wana swing your mag more than 50 ppm at any one time... but im sure this isnt an exact thing... it goes back to stable water parameters... how much are you willing to change it at once knowing how sensitive they can be? like anything else, a slower change is better than a fast...
  6. Fraggin up Z's & P's question...

i second the use of a scalpel, along with maybe some bone cutters to help cut the plug or rock... myself i use a razorblade... but the z's and p's i frag, i grow on ceramic tiles... i take them out of the water, dab them with a towel so they close up, the jus use the tip of the blade and trace...
  7. Nitrates

i want to add that i feel, as well as some others i have spoken to, that nitrates being low are not nearly as important as keeping your phosphates in check... phates are much more detrimental to the health of corals it seems than having your trates as low as possible... what makes me curious is...
  8. Nitrates

i would jus love to see more pics and some test results... as far as ULNS starving corals, that is one reason why i myself feed my tang heavy and use oysterfeast every so often... my colors are great imo, and my growth does well... again, i am not saying it isnt possible, but it goes against...
  9. Nitrates

if he doesnt test, then i think its unreasonable to say he has high nitrates... ill check it out, thanks for the lead!
  10. Nitrates

ryan, that makes complete sense for lps and softies... im not sure i would say 80ppm is good even for them, but it is known that softies and lps like a bit more "dirty" water... i am not trying to sound like a jerkie, i jus wana see proof that people with high trates are keeping sps with...
  11. Nitrates

if everything looks good, then thats all that matters my friend :)
  12. Nitrates

i would love to see some links to them as this would be a real eye opener for me... and i am always open to new things... any links or pics?
  13. Nitrates

do you keep a succesful sps tank with high nitrates? and by succesful, i mean color, not brown, with proper polyp extension and good consistant growth... it is understood throughout the hobby that sps do not do well with any amount of nitrates, except maybe a couple ppm and no more than that...
  14. Nitrates

my system has been running for one year last month... i have never had any nitrates whatsoever... very high and proper flow throughout entire system, LOW bio load w/o over feeding (which alot of people make the mistake of), powerful skimming and a properly setup deep sand bed or completely...
