  1. shrimp death problem

I have a 75g with lots of healthy corals, a sailfin tang, a bangaii cardinal, snails, and 20 red-leg hermits. I got two cleaner shrimp about six months ago. Both died within an hour of introduction. I figured the problem was either acclimation or that my alkalinity and pH were not spot-on...
  2. Anyone have experience with C. varians, the legendary nudibr

An LFS in my city just got some small C. varians, the black and blue nudibranch that ostensibly eats red flatworms. They are about an inch snout-to-tail. Does anyone have personal experience with these? My questions are: 1) Do they in fact eat red flatworms? 2) Do they die after depleting the...
  3. naso tang question

No, I dont have one yet. Im researching before I get one. It was in a Fenner book that I read they need brown algae.
  4. Will a Royal Gramma get along with a mandarin??

Ive had both in a 29g, and they both completely ignored each other. In fact I would say a mandarin ignores anything larger than its diet staple, which is bugs one millimeter or smaller, which includes all of my fish, and me as well. Its as if he didnt see them.
  5. naso tang question

Is it true that naso tangs require a brown algae diet? If so, whats a good way to get this food for it? Can you buy it in sheets like nori? Thanks! ND
  6. Greenstar Polyps Spawning?

Wow! Amazing! The exact same thing happened to some star polyps of mine. I was sure some animal had deposited them there. I posted on this and other boards and nobody knew where they came from or what they were. The "eggs" disappeared after a week or so without a trace or anything hatching from...
  7. Snapping noise...

Yeah, thats tricky. I saw his stalky little eyeballs poking out of the underside of a rock. Hopefully yours will provide you the same assistance.
  8. Flatworms

Hippo: Im sorry if I offended you. On the other hand, speaking as a honky, were all of these changed to "Jesus said..." I would not find it the least bit offensive, but rather just as amusing.
  9. Snapping noise...

Gosh, I wouldn't consider a mantis "lucky" either! The bottle method is not foolproof. For animals not so far removed taxinomically from insects, they are clever little guys. The figure out very quickly you are trying to get them. This is what eventually worked for me, after lots of other...
  10. Flatworms

Heres another one for ya, Smokin: "Confucius say: He who fart in church sit in his own pew."
  11. Flatworms

Uh-huh. I once went 3 months without feeding. No appreciable difference. I have also tried siphoning, a 6-line wrasse, and a spotted madarin (Im surprised nobody has mentioned that last one). All for naught. The things are like herpes.
  12. Alk / Calcium balance- basic help!

Yes, well, Fenner says that it takes some doing to create CA fallout, and then everything is horribly coated and takes forever to clean. If this is true (and I for one am not going to try it out of curiosity) than thats not the problem. Maybe it is, though; I have no personal experience. But...

  14. could the temperature be causing this?

Thanks for the input. Crap. The last thing I want to do is tear down the tank. But I guess its inevitable. Sigh...
  15. could the temperature be causing this?

Just thought I would poit out that it is now October, my opening post being July 1, and there is still a dinoflagellate problem in my 29g. In the last few months I have run carbon 24/7, have fed the tank maybe 2 times, cut down the lighting, and have tried to do 2 water changes a week siphoning...
