I think there may be too much head pressure on the pump. This is due to the height of the water in the skimmer. im afraid there is nothing u can do about this. U need a bigger pump or you can move the exit of the pump higher up on the skimmer body. You could cap of the holes u al;ready made and...
EVeryone always comments on my anemone problem. I kalk bomb all 200 of them and the come back within 2 weeks. I need some natural predators. The coral is not bent over from flow. Its just weak i guess. I just putit in the tank. Assuming it is colt/capnella, What kind of flow and light...
I am also considering filling the bottom sump with sponges and tunicates. I read that sponges could release antibiotics (especially when dying) that could kill off my nitrifying bacteria. Do sponges require a lot of potential food items floating around?
Good point. I also have a RDSB about 5 gallons. you think Another DSb in the sump would be overkil with moderate bioload? My system is about 30 gallons total
Where would you put the sanbed, the top level or the lower level. Pleawse look at the pic, notice that my sump has 2 levels. I originally planned to make the upper level a detritus settling area but I worry that detritus will also make its way to the lower level and make the sand med a nutrient...
saltwater is a very good insulator. Im assuming your tang i slarge and therefore u will use a lot of water. 3 heat packs seem like an overkilto me. is in overnight delivery? U also mus consier if an airplane will be used for deliver. the cargo areas get very cold. Ground and air require...
moving some crabs and stuff will be fine. You going to have to feed them cos im sure u dont have much alage in there for them to eat. SInce you are just hooking up your new tank you may want to use a remote deep sand bucket. Im currently setting one up and looking fwd to the results. ALl it is...
The bacteria living on the bioballs will be very different than the nitrifying bacteria living inside live rock. The environment is different, the rocks are submerged and have anaerobic areas where as the bioballs do not.
Your parameters are normal for a 6 day old tank especially if you have...
Perhaps if you have a DSB to process all the nitrate coming from the bioballs it can work. I did have bad experiences with bioballs. Bioballs are in the same category as undergravel filters in my book. Its something we used in the 80's when we did not know any better.
Looks good with the caves. Those rocks will be covered in green hair alage if u dont remove the bioballs. You will with out a doubt have a nitrate factory and replacing the filter floss everyday is not going to prevent it.
