  1. corals touching

Your Xenia will be the loser there. The Frogspawn has the nastiest sting and will dominate when any of those corals touch it. Mike
  2. Emerald Crab and Torch Problems

It maybe just hungry, try to target fed it with some seaweed selects or other veggie matter and it should behave itself Mike
  3. 90 gallon lighting

I have to agree with the above posts. In my 90 I have SPS, LPS, softies and is everything alive and well. I'm currently running PCs, but I know I would get better coloration and growth from the SPS under MH. I'll probably upgrade in the future. Mike
  4. overflows

Broker with a 1" bulkhead, you may want to consider a larger pump or keep the overflow very high to the surface so you don't overflow the sump. You can always throttle down with a ball valve on the exhaust. Good Luck with your plans Mike
  5. leather question

I have a Sinularia also(Knobby). Did you acclimate your lighting? It could be the Frogspawn's problem also. Give it a few days to adjust. Mine shrinks for a few days then produces a waxy build up, which removes ditrus and algae on it, that blows away and the following day it looks better than...
  6. frogspawn question

How is your lighting and current?, water parameters? Mine seems to prefer moderate lighting and moderate current which keeps it's sweepers in check. Do you fed it at all? I don't feed mine at all anymore because when I did it would grab the food item and then let it go. It must be getting enough...
  7. South down sand

I think it's great stuff and I wish I would have found out about it sooner. I had about 3" of oolite down when I wanted to make the sandbed deeper, so I added another 50lbs of SD. It created a sandstorm for a day or so and then I had to keep cleaning the rockwork off as it settled. After a few...
  8. HELP!! Hole in brittle star

How is behaving? Did it drop any arms?It should be hiding out in a cave somewhere trying to recover. Try to target feed it and if it does thats a good sign and should recover. If it doesn't eat, try everyday and hopefully it will. The problem is what caused it, an attack from some other critter...
  9. FYI - Fixing a Precision Marine skimmer

I use hot water and vinegar to loosen the calcium deposits up in the venturi and then scrap it off with a thin piece of metal like the end of a paper clip. Then I rinse it under hot water. I'm done in less than 5 minutes. Mike
  10. Cant get my calcium up.....why?

Raising your Cal will lower your Alk and vice a versa. If you are having trouble raising your Cal try checking your Mag level. Without getting into a chemistry lesson ....it does effect the amount of Calcium that can be held in solution. Usually a good water change with a quality salt should...
  11. best snails and crabs

Trochus shells come almost to a point and seem to be a lighter color. I use Trochus and Cereth snails on the glass and rocks. I like Queen Conches for the sand. I don't have any Astreas because they have a tendency to fall on their backs and have a hard time righting themselves. I also don't...
  12. I hate Rio's

Hey Guys, I just have to vent a little. I just bought a nice Soly and some other Acro frags and I want to give them a some extra current. I know Rio's aren't any good, but I have a NEW Rio 800 still in the box collecting dust so I decided to use it until I could get a better one. It lasted less...
  13. Trachyphilia communication skills...

I have a ROB and a GOB both seem to better in the sand and a good current. The GOB likes stronger light and sits in a pile of sand on the rocks. The ROB sits in the sandbed. If the feeder tenticles come out everynight that is a good indicator that they may not be getting enough nutrients from...
