  2. T-5 lighting on a Icecap 660

don't know if this should be in the DIY forum but does anyone know anything about using T-5 lamps? I read an article in FAMA and it said you can use some GE brand T-5 bulbs and it works as good as MH. Just wondering if anyone read this or if they know anything about this since I would like to...
  3. DT question

i bet if you put a light source and feed CO2 in the DT batch it would last longer. for the CO2 just use some yeast and warm water in an air tight container that feeds directly to the DT batch. could be wrong though.
  4. Do you know what is this and how to erradicate it ?

inject it with kalk paste. that should take care of it no matter what it is.
  5. Carib-sea Mineral Mud

haven't posted in a while since i graduated and lost my broadband. here's my input on the matter: i tried miracle mud on my refugium. all i did was let it stand for a couple days before i turned it on. everything was fine. i could have been lucky that i didnt lose anything- who knows. it's...

  7. plumbing check valve question

just wondering what people are using to prevent water from siphoning back into their sump. i have an old rubber flap check valve in mine, but i think it's not working anymore and would like to get a new one that is more reliable. the only check valves that i can find at the local hardware...

i was lookin at my emerald crabs and saw that one of them is missing their claws. no idea how he misplaced those  will he regenerate his claws back when he molts like some shrimp do, or is he pretty much useless now for eating my bubble algea?
  9. behavioral patterns on urchins?

i had a pencil urchin once and never had a problem with bubble algae. decided to trade it in for other livestock and then my bubble algae nightmares started. don't know if it's a coincidence or what, but i do konw that i'm going to get another urchin to see if it helps. how much does your lfs...
  10. KALK ? DRIP PLATE?

if your rock is totally submerged, then you can remove the drip plates. as for the kalk drip, i've heard of people having really high calcium, but don't know if it was doing anything harmful. i would try to keep it in the normal range. you can accomplish this by not dosing kalk anymore, but...
  11. Skimer

ya, now that i think of it, for a nano, i would prolly go the refugium route, rather than protein skimmer.
  12. HELP!!! Green bubbles are taking over.

valonia aka green bubble algea. it is a PIA. i'm battleing it rightn ow myself. have 3 emeral crabs in a 75 gal. don't seem to be making a dent. you are most likely going to have to remove most of it by hand with some tweezers. that's pretty much the rseponse i've been given from everyone...
  13. AHH...I've got a Mantis!

i would try the 2 liter bottle trick
  14. AHH...I've got a Mantis!

  15. Has anyone been following this

a good reminder to us all. we may set up a tank that has something to break down anything, but in the end, we will still have to do that "one big cleaning" per year. just siphon out the accumulated crap once or twice a year and you'll be fine.
