  1. Why do my rocks look like crap?

any cleaning critters in the tank? Snails and a tang should make quick work of it (unless its bryopsis)
  2. New Hitchhiker found after 4 years.

Thanks, I'm still amazed its been in there for four years without me noticing... I remember lightly scrubbing all the live rock with a brush to get off the dead stuff....
  3. New Hitchhiker found after 4 years.

Hi, thought I'ld share this with you, sorry if I ramble. My tank is a 75 oceanic. Its been up for slightly more than 4 years. The first 3 years, I ran it as a FOWLR, but with only reef friendly inhabitants. In the last year with a lighting upgrade I've started to convert to a reef. There...
  4. PFO Moon Light

Maybe you could put some sort of diffuser/filter in front of it. e.g. colored lens or colored cellophane paper.
  5. turn-key aquariums and the new hobbyist

The idea is intriguing, though the discussion seems to have denegraded. There is no valid reason why it can't be available. Many companies sell Tanks, Stands, Hoods, Sumps. Usually bundled with useless (for reef) lighting. Make no mistake, this won't be cheap, especiall if you want quality...
  6. red wooly algae

4angel, Any luck getting this under control? If so, what did you do. I believe the red growths I'm seeing is this stuff. Grows on top of the corraline. Really hard to scrap off. If I let it go it will start getting fuzzy patches of red. Defintely not cyano.
  7. overrun by nudibranches

1 mm? sounds likme flatworms, not nudibranchs
  8. LFS says Ok to fill new tank without RO

Don't do it. JMHO Your only asking for trouble, but don't worry, the LFS would love to sell you a bunch of chemicals to cure your algea problems should their idea not work out.
  9. S.O.S.-Algae!

Without ro/di, you may want to add some rowa-phos or phosban to your filter. Don't rinse it, and encapsulate it in floss so the micro particles don't turn your water red. This would absorb phosphates which are likely coming in, within your tap water (and food). Phosphates fuel the algea, and...
  10. Tank Drilling

Ben if I read your post correctly you 'save' 8 dollars by doing this yourself (42$ bit vs. 50$). Is that realy saving? what is experience worth?
  11. Hair Algea Part 3(maybe 4)

FWIW - You certain its 'hair' algea? Some green algea is avoided by most clean up crews. Do a search on Bryopsis.
  12. Feedback on IPSF.

Couldn't you just contact your Credit Card company? They should be able to credit you as the goods were never received and they will take back payment from the vendor. It is similar to a false charge against your account.
  13. Algea outbreak

Could you post any pics? Also check your phosphate level, anything measurable will generally feed algea.
  14. bubble algae

I had a few of these pop up in my tank. I put a Python over them which I use for water changes, and picked them off. This way if they broke (and they did), the spores would get sucked up (hopefully). A couple regrew on the same rock, and I needed to repeat, but I haven't seen any in a couple...
  15. Is This For REAL?? Coral Calcium pills...

I saw part of the same infomercial and thought - "Why don't I just eat some oolitic sand. Naah, I'lld rather drink milk."
