4angel, Any luck getting this under control? If so, what did you do. I believe the red growths I'm seeing is this stuff. Grows on top of the corraline. Really hard to scrap off. If I let it go it will start getting fuzzy patches of red. Defintely not cyano.

Don't do it. JMHO Your only asking for trouble, but don't worry, the LFS would love to sell you a bunch of chemicals to cure your algea problems should their idea not work out.

Without ro/di, you may want to add some rowa-phos or phosban to your filter. Don't rinse it, and encapsulate it in floss so the micro particles don't turn your water red. This would absorb phosphates which are likely coming in, within your tap water (and food). Phosphates fuel the algea, and...

Ben if I read your post correctly you 'save' 8 dollars by doing this yourself (42$ bit vs. 50$). Is that realy saving? what is experience worth?

FWIW - You certain its 'hair' algea? Some green algea is avoided by most clean up crews. Do a search on Bryopsis.

Couldn't you just contact your Credit Card company? They should be able to credit you as the goods were never received and they will take back payment from the vendor. It is similar to a false charge against your account.

Could you post any pics? Also check your phosphate level, anything measurable will generally feed algea.

I had a few of these pop up in my tank. I put a Python over them which I use for water changes, and picked them off. This way if they broke (and they did), the spores would get sucked up (hopefully). A couple regrew on the same rock, and I needed to repeat, but I haven't seen any in a couple...
