  1. Lighting for a 125 - MH - 250w or 400w

Idea of amount of light, okeedokee..... 21h x 19w x 60l (98gln) PFO dual 400w and a 1000w(still searching for) in the center. I'm aiming for too much light!! 4 110w vho's to add a little blue into the harsh yellow light of the 6500k Iwasakis. I may end up with a third 400w PFO, but I'm not too...
  2. Need help with ecosytem setup

JennM, The Ecosystem runs crystal clear water, without a skimmer. Check out Sue's link for an excellent example of an Ecofilter in action. Dave.
  3. Pics of my 180g. ecosystem reef

I stood in front of that tank, once, and it almost hurt. Makes my tank look like pooh!! See ya when I see ya! Dave. [ September 30, 2001: Message edited by: lil_ol_me ]
  4. Oceanic 175G Reef Ready-BowFront Tank?

Esmithiii, The tank in question has two PLASTIC supports molded into the rims, top and bottom, just like the ABS PLASTIC hood. IMO, these tanks are crap(sorry if you own one)and ridiculously expensive. If you want a refugium, you'll need to paint the inside of the glass doors. The front of...
  5. Help on new tank

A QO will easily out flow a 3/4", and *can* out flow a 1" bulk head, mine did. I had to throttle the pump back, which led to an overheating problem. That tank looks very acrylic, if so, get a hole saw and drill a hole for a 2" bulkhead. You'll never have to throttle back a pump again. Dave
  6. How many people here have 1000watt bulbs for there reef.

    I'd go with 2 x 400 6500k, 2 x 400 10-12000k, with VHO actinics(if you must have the blue) or, if you must go the "more power" route... 2 x 400 6500-10000k, and 1 1000w 10000k, with 4 x 110vho actinics The 2nd one is the setup for my 5', 98gln(which isn't completed, yet). Dave
  7. To dip or not to dip, that is the question...

To keep with the question...... I like to rinse in fresh SW first, to remove shipping scum, scrub like mad for awhile, to remove nasties, and more SW rinsing. To remove shrimps and worms(if you want), a quick dip in cold RO water usually works, but could kill some of the beneficial organisms in...
  8. Trying to start a Refugium for 60 gallon reef

May I sugest an Ecosystems sump/filter. They're nearly fool-proof, and they provide excellent results. Dave
  9. Look at this poor fish

    Loading shotgun............
  10. ANyone seen the new PowerQuad retro form Pet Warehouse?

I'm assuming we're discussing a 96w PC quad!! If so.......awesome......I'm putting one over a 10gln, soon!!(yes it will be chilled) CSL makes a smartlight 96w quad(half white, half actinic) Dave
  11. Removing bubbletip anemone from rock...suggestions?

I hope someone can answer you soon, because I'm having the same problem!! My anemone has eaten 3 anthias and 2 cardinals in the last week. I'm to the point of taking a razor blade to it. Sorry for not helping, Dave.
  12. Attacking Star fish, Is it Sun Dec 7?

I watch large brittle/serpent stars trying to take down fish on a daily basis. Beware! Dave. Wow, lots of Houstonians here these days!
  13. Tenecor Simplicity Plus?

I don't think I'll be as descriptive as I'd like to be, but......they suck. Get a Reef Ready, because the first thing you'll want to do is drill the bottom for a sump. The tiny wet/dry in them is next to worthless. My 75gln SP now has no warranty, because I drilled it, no bueno. Another major...
  14. Refugium

Ging There are a few reasons for a refugium: 1. To grow critters(pods, worms, baby shrimp, etc.) for a natural food source. 2. To help remove nitrates through macroalgaes. 3. To increase water volume(like a sump). 4. To provide you with countless hours of amusement. I'm sure there are more...
  15. xenia

I have some xenia that has to be removed from a powerhead every few weeks. I slice it off with a razor, rubberband it to a rock, and the residual tissue ALWAYS sprouts new polyps within days!!
