  1. Advice on drilling acrylic holes for screws.

This is old, but just my .02, always use the correct "pilot" bit to drill the hole with, use a wood boring drill bit that has spurs on the business end called brad point http://www.traditionalwoodworker.com/images/Twinland-Bradpoint-sm.jpg as these drill the best and no grabbing. For a 1/4" x...
  2. Tank building

That would work, but you'll need a clear piece on the front as well if it's not tinted But then you can't drill the tank and have to use external HOB overflow box

You could use some of that dense foam from HD or Lowes to take up the unevenness. They do sell flat bottom totes.

About a 230gal tank, you'll need at least 3/4" thick acrylic or even 1" thick but 3/4" minimum. Retail 3/4" runs about $800 + per sheet and he's gonna to need 2 1/2 sheets. good luck

  13. Rose Anemones

No easy way to get them off the rocks, just peel s l o w l y. Another way is to take a little piece of the rock with the foot, but peeling is way better. Another is the power head, just point it at them and soon they/it will be moving. If I were you I would sell them on the board and pocket...
  14. Calcium Reactors

Just my .02 cents. If you go with a bigger pump, you will have to deal with more pressure build up in the "tube" you will need better sealing. The lid will/should be quick lift off and on, so key hole flanges or a quick turn like on Brent Barr's reactors. I use 3/8" for my flanges for...
  15. The best source for diy metal halide?

You can get flashing material from HD and bend it into the shape of a spider reflector. For the heat issue, just add some small computer fans on either end - blowing in of course, to cool it down a little. Blowing in to extend the life of the fans - pulling air out , you would pull the salt...
