  1. Which is the prettiest Angel?

The Lemonpeel Angel Centropyge Flavissimus is the best! I have owned P. imperator, P. navarchus and P. xanthometopon, but I still love Centropyge spp. the best! Just my opinion but two beautiful Centropyge spp. angels beat a large Pomacanthus or Holacanthus Angel any day! Good Luck!
  2. LR vs DSB: the next great debate

What is your goal as an aquarist??? To create an EFFICIENT environment?! Give me a bleepin break, I believe that being an aquarist is more than finding the most efficient filtration...It is obvious to me that replicating the natural environment as closely as possible while minimizing the...
  3. is there a chance it would live? ....

I do what you are proposing. I have a Pomacanthus imperator (Emp. Angel) in my 90 gallon that was going to be chucked by my LFS. I think the only caution advised is introducing disease to your already established and healthy fish. I have many, many tanks at my disposal, so I am very lucky...
  4. what kind of filtration do you recommend

Put a healthy amount of LR in your system and attach a skimmer. That is all that is necessary. A wet-dry is fine, but unecessary if you have LR. LR will take care of your biological filtration, as well as eliminate a good degree of the nitrates from the wet-dry if you decide you need one...
  5. Mysterious Tang Demise

I have forty yellow tangs (Zebrasoma flavescens), 10 Powder blue tangs (Acanthurus leucosternon), two brown tangs (Zebrasoma scopas), 13 pacific blue tangs (Paracanthurus hepatus), 4 whiteface tangs (Acanthurus japonicus), and two Red Sea Purple tangs (Zebrasoma xanthurus)... I feed them two...
  6. Have you had success treating sick fish?

You have to take responsability for the proper running of a quarantine tank. It sounds to me that you have done little in the way of studying marine fish disease. I recommend you study and memorize the most common symptoms of the most common diseases and start your evaluation of the situstion...
  7. Help! I have Small round green algae

This sounds like Valonia spp. or bubble Caulerpa spp. The problem here lies with your phosphate levels and/or lack of proper herbivore activity. The tang idea is a good one, but if you are not maintaining a Red Sea tank then a Zebrasoma xanthurus may not do well or fit in with your other...
  8. How long before adding LR ?

24 hrs. is good, but allow more time if you have the patience. As Saltwater matures slow chemical reactions take place that stabilize the water. I would wait a week and add my rock at the correct salinity, temperature, and pH (comparable to the tanks you got the rock from). I may be anal, but...
  9. calcium carbonate question, experts please read

Calcium Carbonate is 99% insoluble in water. I don't recommend trying a chemical reaction to make this powder soluble in water...you may convert it into an unusable or toxic form. Calcium chloride is good to a certain degree, and the powdered CaOH is great to make your own kalk. There are...
  10. Skimmer problems

I have maintained two 90 gal. reef tanks with low bioload for 3 months without a skimmer. I do have a refugium, but I believe in skimmers and will reconnect mine once I have completed repairs. ($$$) I see that my dissolved organics have increased (obviously) since taking my derelict skimmer...
  11. kalk depletes alkalinity?

Don't dose excessive amounts of kalk or the above mentioned problems can be aggravated. I have never used Reef Builder and kalk together but I know that too much kalk at once can cause problems with your alkalinity. Good luck -Stephen
  12. Dieing Green Chromis'

Fungal Diseases are hard to control, let alone eliminate. And not common besides. Don't trust that Methylene Blue is going to get rid of fungal infections even if you do have a certain diagnoses. Also I find that chromis are not ideal for a non-cycled tank and are often fragile. Cycling does...
