  1. Bubbles coming from sandbed (good or bad)

Uhhh.. I was under the impression that any bubbles liberated from the sand bed were nitrogen and were a sign that the sand bed was working properly. When anything walks across my dsb there is usually a trail of tiny bubbles right behind it. jb
  2. Heaters

Doesn't the law of independent trials say that each coin flip is it's own event, and has nothing to do with the flip before it. And that there is exactly the same probability of flipping heads 1000 times in a row as there is of flipping heads and tails an equal number of times? jb
  3. (Hitchhiker) Red Algae ID?

Was told this could possibly be a type of calurpa.. Looking for some more opinions or a positive id. It is 'bubbly', the tips glow bright red under actinics. It almost looks like some kind of softie. Thanks alot everyone.
  4. PVC risers for Live Rock with DSB

I piped, I used large PVC tubing (can't remember the size right now, 4.5" maybe). It's drilled very heavily, more open area than PVC, it's driven down to the glass and extends over the sand approximately 1/4 to 1/2 inch. The supports are placed under the largest of the rocks in the tank and...

  7. DIY Aquarium Management System (Controller)

Chris, You bet, as soon as I get some free time (after the project is done), everything will be up on the web! Jim
  8. DIY Aquarium Management System (Controller)

Still working hard on this, I've got until the 23rd to get the bulk of it done (at least enough to meet my requirements documents). Anyway, I've been working on the web monitoring tool lately. I've got most of the guts in place (back-end database, objects, etc), all I've got to do is make it...
  9. DIY Aquarium Management System (Controller)

If you find a decent source for probes (as well as the data sheets on how to interpret the data) make sure you post it up for the rest of us! I've been having a hell of a time trying to find any decent information! Back to software.. I've been developing software for a number of different...

No problem, if you give me your email address, I'll take some more shots for you (that shot is pretty bad). If you decide to use that one, credit: Jim Bednar -Jim

    Thanks! Jim
  12. What kind of glue do I use for this

You need an acrylic cement, something like Weld On #16 would probably work well in your application. jb
  13. DIY Aquarium Management System (Controller)

<rest snipped because I agree with every point :) > Agreed, 100%, up, down, left, right, absolutely.. I actually started some of this project working with AB PLCs, as well as a great miniature PLC setup by a company called Keyence.. Check em out sometime. But, like I mentioned above, really...
  14. DIY Aquarium Management System (Controller)

Having the lowest cost possible was never a goal, only that it was affordable to myself, since all expenses would be paid out of my cheap pocket. Not even close to being a goal or aspiration for this project. Besides, there are plenty of very low cost, low power laptops available that would...
  15. DIY Aquarium Management System (Controller)

The scope just happened to be on the floor when I took the picture.. But, I was using it, instead of connected loads, to test the system during prototyping. I should have a fully functional system up in the next three weeks.. I'll get my system online and give out the URL for folks to take a...
