What about using that Spray on Glue (in a can) you can pick up at Auto Stores. Basically you could spray the egg crate then lay the screen on top in a tight manner. It would look the cleanest, but I am not sure if I fully grasp the issue you are trying to solve. J.

Wouldn't it then be more cost effective to just use a two or three stage tap water filter from home depot in this case. Why create the waste if you are only going to reuse it. Just a thought. J.
