  1. Orangespoted filefish

Feed them a good flake food, or even better, a mix. Mine is swimming happily in my tank for more than half a year now. Initially I had to wean him with live acropora though (an expensive and heartbreaking process which I will never repeat again...) I noticed that he generally does not bother...
  2. Damsel rubbing tail in blennies face?

I notice too that my damsel does the tail wagging thing to new fish that I add into my tank. Seems that she's shooing him away, a warning to the intruder that he is not welcome. However clowns are usually untouched, I wonder why? The next step after tail waving will be actual chasing and...
  3. stocking a 70g, need help!

Ocellaris are friendly! I bought my pair of ocellaris clowns (one smaller than the other) from amongst a huge school, not sure if they're a pair at first. But I read that clowns are female by default and the smaller ones just change into males after a while, with the largest remaining as the...
  4. stocking a 70g, need help!

Yellowtail or blue or green damsels should be fine in a schools though sometimes they do mock-chase tankmates. I have an orange damsel (Neoglyphidodon polyacanthus I think) who establishes herself as the Big Mama of the tank. Whenever my small Heniochus sees her approaching he'll do the fish...

How big is your system? Agree on the magnesium. If Ca level has been rising and then stagnates at 330 despite adding mega doses, be careful of overdosing when the test kit is not working properly. I would first check the test kit (eg. reliability, expiry date etc). Then double-check the...
  6. HOT TIP Submissions -- Topic: Critter Selection

knowledge, patience and observation are the three commandments IMO... in other words: read, wait, and watch your critters! :D
  7. You know you’re in trouble …

IMHO I would suggest: groupers and lionfish in one tank, flame angel/clown/hogfish and crusties/starfish in another. Mantis shrimp (if you wanna keep it) should stay by itself as should the tube anemone... predators all.
  8. shrimp attacking my feather duster

are you very sure you have a peppermint shrimp? camelback shrimps look similar (except for a hump) and are reputedly less safe.
