I have been mixing my salt by hand about an hour prior to the water change. I use a plastic stirrer and mix it until it's clear and fully dissolved. Heat it and do the water change. Never had any issues using IO or reef crystals.

If they do get one. They are a very healthy batch. They all looked good. Mine started picking at the rocks within a half hour of being in the tank. Started eating frozen foods on the third day and loves the nori sheets.

Water changes, GFO(granular ferric oxide), manual removal, wet skimming, get your Magnesium up to 1300-1500 ppm using Tech M. Blacking out the tank for 48 hours can help too.

Keep your alk and Ca up. Levels too low or to high will cause calcareous algae, snails, and hard corals to suffer.

I agree with jvu61. That looks like it was a blue sponge that is dying and algae is feeding off of it.
