  1. For those of you expressing your blind hatred towards natio

As a Christian and a New Zealander (white) recently immigrated to the USA I'd like to thank Fmx2md to setting the record straight about Islam. My heart breaks every time I think of what has happened. I am also personally infuriated by anyone who turns to racist and religious intolerance out of...
  2. Clicking is freaking me out!

Lots of reef fish use clicking, grunting and other noises to communicate using sound. In my old fish-only tank my humbug damsel (Dascyllus auratus) was a champion clicker. I'm pretty sure my blue devil and fiji damsel answered back too. Mostly this sounding off is used as a warning signal in...
  3. Are dolphins mamals?

Hey! I'm reef safe...or at least I like to think so Cheers, Craig Dolphin
  4. Foraminiferan

Well, I like to think I can admit when I'm wrong so pay attention: I'm wrong ! I've never seen arborescent forms like this before but Doctor Shimek has and confirms the ID as a foraminiferan. I don't know if colonial would be the right term since they are a subgroup of amoeba (single...
  5. Foraminiferan

Hmm..they don't look like a foraminiferan to me. Foraminifera are single celled critters and I may be wrong here, but from memory they're not colony forming. I tend to agree with mouse's guess: leather coral or possibly a glass sponge. Another possibility would be a small colony of hydroids...
  6. Help my Tomato clown has "pop eye"

Erk, from what I recall popeye (exopthalmosis) can also be caused by an infection behind the eye. (Which may be intoduced through a small injury or not). I'd do a search through your books and the internet for treatment options. You might also take a look at this url for the basics...
  7. Do Reef Tanks Get Too Old?

GDawson, I've read that Dr Ron shimek is preparing to do a study on 'old-tank syndrome' by getting water samples from hobbyists and getting them scientifically analysed at a laboratory for the presence of heavy metals and many other elements/compounds that there are no hobbyist test kits...
  8. What Ballast???

ALS supply 'Advanced' ballasts with their retro kits. I got the 250W with bulb upgrade. Works just fine. Ballast does emit a hum and does get hot. Icecaps are, I believe, almost silent and don't get hot but from stuff I've seen online they underdrive some MH bulbs (less light output) and in some...
  9. today's life lesson

Too funny. Just finished reading a 100+ post on AL that had the consensus that there was too much flaming there (it ended in a flame war!) Now I come here to check out the competition and encounter /this/ thread. It's hilarious. And depressing. Talk about everyone getting bent out of shape over...
  10. Plumbing question: slurpin' vs. flow

Could it be that you have gone from an overflow that functions as a nearly complete 'siphon' to an overflow that has too much air intake? If my hole on the outside of the tank is opened too large you get less flow happening. Perhaps you need to restrict the amount of air getting into the tee on...
