1. Calcium Reactor or Kalkwaser Reactor or Both.... :?: :?:

Telo: How long have you had the kalk reactor (or are you just now ordering it)? If you've had it, how long did it take to get it once you ordered it? Any feedback? As the others, I use both on my reef but am considering an inexpensive kalk reactor for my FOWLRs. DonK
2. Mystery (white-barred) Wrasse question

Dan: I have had mine for about 6 months...it doesn't bother any of the soft corals in the tank...doesn't seem to be a big sandbed picker either. Mine however, is quite aggressive (at least towards some fish). It is in a 125 with a blank tang, goldflake angel, lemopeel angel, pair of fire...
3. battery back-wiring question

I just purchased a Tripp-lite APS-512 and a Concorde PVX-840T AGM sealed (deep-cell) battery. The Tripp-lite directions call for a fuse (with a minimum of 100 amps) between Tripp-lite and the battery (on + side connection). I am electrically challenged and need help from those less so. Since...
4. All VHO users must read this

For what its worth: I tried 18" NO bulbs (in my ICECAP driven VHO set-up on my mud filter) as a temporary replacement, while I decided whether to re-order VHOs or to use Iceap in another sysem and replace it w/ a PC. The 2 "Home Depot cheapie" bulbs lasted less than 3 weeks combined (1 was...
5. Anybody got a lychopod?

Sounds like a Yellow Brotula. In S. Michael's Pocketguide, he gives "Lycopod Goby" as an alternative common name. Unfortunately, he gives it an aquarium suitability score of 1, see p 46 in the book for details. Good luck, DonK
6. Any one ever keep a Harlequin Tusk in a reef?

Rover: I've had mine in my reef for about 2.5 years. I've never seen it bother anything: corals, snails or hermits. The tusk will chase my exquisite wrasse on occasion at feeding time. I think small shrimp or crabs would be goners. The tusk co-existed with a fountain (similar to CB)...
7. Red Coris Wrasse + inverts

chin_lee: My red coris has never bothered either urchins or large brittle stars. They are masters at turning stuff over to pick at small crustaceans and the like on the underside. HTH DonK

9. Scott W. Michael's Reef Fishes Volume 2,II,TWO!

Has it actually been published, or is it still "Coming soon"? From whom did you guys order it? Thanks, DonK
10. Tesselata Moray Eels

Mike:
quote:
Originally posted by M.E.Milz: Thanks for the info. I was really surprised to hear that the tesselata became such a problem while still relatively small. I am going to have to re-think this...
11. What do you think the Best Looking Reef Fish is?

In my reefs, my favorites are: angels (regal, majestic, emperor, flagfin) magnificient foxface solar-headed (fairy)wrasse moorish idol harlequin tusk tassled file butterflies (copperband and long-nosed) ...I know I am forgetting something... Gee, I'm starting to think all thesh are my orites...
12. Tesselata Moray Eels

ME: My experience was not good. I had a medium-sized (18-24" if memory serves) in my 300. First it ate a dog-faced puffer. Next it ate 2 large lions. I wouldn't have believed it had I not seen it. The first lion "disappeared" after I had done some cleaning/re-arranging and I foolishly...
13. How many tanks do you have?

I have 5 systems with about 2000 gallons total: 1: 360, 225, & 120 reef 2: 300 and 100 soft coral reef 3: 240 and 115 aggressive FOWLR 4: 125 and 29 FOWLR 5: 125 and 20 FOWLR The agressive FOWLR is biggest PITA since no snails can live in tank, it is typically in need of a scrubbing. DonK
14. damsels in a reef!

Salefen: There are some very pretty damsels that are not nearly as aggressive as standard yellow-tails (though these are typically more expensive and not as common). For example, Allen's, Goldbelly, and my favorite the Starki. There is information on the first 2 in Scott Michael's...
15. Coral Beauty poll:

Grandczar: >How long have you had? 6 years >Which corals if any got nipped? Open brains (though he/she was far from worst of angels). Has never bothered anything else. >How often do you feed? At least once a day, sometimes twice: mysis formula 1 and 2, and spirulina flakes are primary foods...
