1. The dark side of reefing.

I don't mean to put on a halo or anything here but I think it's important to distinguish between reefkeepers and the general saltwater aquarium consumer. In general, reefkeepers are much more conscious of the entire reef ecosystem, generally have lower mortality, pick their tank occupants more...

3. Are you a redneck reefer ?

... you have dead reef occupants preserved and mounted on wall
4. Worried about the move of the sandbed this Friday!!!

When I moved my sandbed I tried to use something like a dustpan that you can scoop up a section of the sandbed "vertically intact" (you have to have the water OUT of the tank to do this of course - I moved mine with the water drained down right to sand level) and then try to place the sand into...
5. Worried about the move of the sandbed this Friday!!!

quote:
Originally posted by Roach: I don't mean rinsing with fresh water. He said a rinse with salt water, maybe even tank water, would really get rid of detritous.

Get rid of...
6. Advice for new 75G tank owner

Well, if you don't mind doing wiring and installation stuff yourself, you can get lighting done relatively cheap. I only have a 55 but I'm currently running a single 400W Iwasaki 6500K MH on my tank; it spreads light well enough to keep even the far corners of the tank growing soft corals, and...
7. 20 gallon sump question

For what it's worth, my sump is not drilled - the ampmaster does a fine job of pulling water over an inverted u-shaped pipe; it starts and re-starts with no difficulty. My skimmer (Oceanic Plus 6) doesn't pass any bubbles through its output so I'm not very helpful on any bubble-management...
8. 20 gallon sump question

I actually happen to be running a 55 with a 20 long sump and an ampmaster 3000 running my tank and skimmer. What a coincidence! I will say that the Ampmaster is entirely more pump than I need and the valves going to my tank return and my skimmer are both only about 1/3 open but it works very...
9. Best To Stop Leak In Acrylic Tank

Is the acrylic cracked or is it leaking through a seam? If it's a seam go to a plastic shop (or www.usplastic.com) and order some weld-on and an applicator syringe.
10. "Worm-type thing" Question

I have brittle / serpent stars in my rock that don't come out; they just reach out for food. Although if they're in teh sump and you toss some food in they will come RUNNING.
11. wooohoo finally got new sump and pump installed!!!

Skimmer outflow goes into sump... it has to drain to something at a lower water level than the skimmer.
12. wooohoo finally got new sump and pump installed!!!

Wow that was a LONG night of work. I just created a new sump and installed my Ampmaster 3000 on my 55 reef and I am VERY pleased with the results! The sump is a 20 low breeder tank; I bought a sheet of 1/4" acrylic and cut 8" tall partitions with my table saw (wow this stuff cuts CLEAN!)...
13. Wow! Big pink branch coral for sale on ebay!

That's odd I reported someone selling about a 2' shark on ebay and they responded immediately.
14. any use an the new ice probe chiller

Efficiencies won't move up enough to make these things competitive on anything bigger than a nano. Thermoelectric coolers are just simply horrible for moving large amounts of heat.
15. Kole Tang not eating

My Kole ate Nori sheets voraciously. But he was also INCREDIBLY shy and it took him about a week or two before he would let himself be exposed in the open; give him time, he will adjust gradually.
