The focus of the tank should be 1/3 from either the right or left according to japanese garden landscaping. Breaking up a wall of rock into one large mass and a smaller separated one often looks nice. GL

Hood fans only run when the 400W halides are on for my 180gal. The temp varies about 3 degrees. Even sensitive fish like tangs and anthias have no probs like ick etc. GL

I don't use heaters at all. Haven't been really necessary IME. Sorry to hear bout your tank.

Anyone know where to get a membrane with >90% rejection rate cheap? Also, if I'm using a 1 micron prefilter and thats fine for filtering, what inexpensive carbon cartridges are around? Thanks

How about using an external electric motor on top, with a shaft going thru the reactor top, and a propellor on the end to mix up the kalk?

Anyone have experience with various levels of TDS in their H2O? I half filled my 180 with 50 ppm H20 and have the option of using an RO/DI to create 1 ppm H2O but am thinking maybe it's not worth it in real terms to prevent algae growth etc. Thanks for any info. B

I use a MAG 7 with a higher collection cup made by the manufacturer in San Diego. I rocks IME.

After keeping reefs 5+ years I tried skimmerless and failed miserably. Quality skimming can help a ton IME.
