  1. Predator fish: Stonefish, Frogfish, Angelfish

I have a baby toadfish that I caught locally. Hes about an inch and a half long. He buries himself under the sand and just pokes his mouth out. Its like a game trying to find his new hiding spot.
  2. Best lighting for my 20 Gal nano

Awesome thanks guys! Now just need to scrounge up some cash.
  3. Best lighting for my 20 Gal nano

Well my 20 gal is cycled and has 2 clowns, a yellow watchman, bluelegs, and a coral banded shrimp. They are all fat dumb and happy. I want to keep some softies in there and provide enough lighting for them. Right now I have the standard 18 watt bulb over the tank and that seems to be keeping...
  4. new discovery

Pictures would help. Do they move? Could be a sponge.
  5. Softy polyp Id

Any of you know what these guys are? They seem to reproduce by detaching themselves and colonizing new areas. Or by spreading a pipeline fleshy matrix across the rock and sprouting from it. They are about 1/2 inch tall and resemble little miniture palm trees. They capture particles in the water.
  6. If you had $500 to spend on lighting...

lol for my next setup that Im designing 500 dollars would get me a couple of bulbs
  7. Clams?

I would have guessed scallop myself. Some member of the scallop family. Dunno.
  8. I Hate it When Fish Randomly Die

The reef is such a dynamic and diverse place that theres more going on at the microscopic level than we can comprehend. Could have been some parasite in a nymph stage or a bacterial infection that hit its vitals. Im no biologist but I know nature is cruel. Could possibly be that something...

  10. Anyone up for a coral ID?

Is this Carribbean live rock? It looks like the young stage of the brain corals that are everywhere down there.
  11. Bigest impediment to fish breeding in systems

I should have clarified better by what I meant. I means successful rearing of inhabitants. Apparently in a lot of very large tanks, corals will show up where none were placed. A guy in my area has a 1200 gal tank and (not documented) he had 5 clown-fish when he only added 2 to the system years...
  12. Bigest impediment to fish breeding in systems

David Saxby, thats the guy. Apparently his fish and inverts breed successfully. http://www.ultimatereef.com/TOTM/2007_jan/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLRubZGW ... re=related
  13. Bigest impediment to fish breeding in systems

So I was doing a little thinking. WHat do you guys think is the biggest factor(s) preventing marine life (corals, fish invertebrates etc) from breeding successfully in our systems. I tried to find the article but a while back I saw a system that was very large. Its owner claimed that the fish...
  14. Help ID please, sand sifting clam???

Looks like a quahog clam or like species to me. Id take it out unless theres a lot of algae/nutrients in the system to filter. In my experience clams like this starve to death in reef tanks then die...then nuke the tank unless theres something to eat it. The shell will open when it dies usually...
