Look in the yellow pages and look for a place on Youree Dr. I cant think of the name, nice people( owner is a little strange), good quality stuff as far as basic corals and inverts. But they have always had a problem with hair algae in thier tanks. I have personally bought mushrooms and polyps...
Prizm skimmers are a piece of junk in IMO. Ihave had one on a 30 gal and it was sorry. Bite the bullet and spend 50 bucks more to get something decent. Trust me it will save some time money and effort in the end.
I have heard form people on this board that the pink and purple corraline algae doesn't do good under intense lighting. I have only run small to moderately sized tanks with PC lighting so i have no experience with this.
Thanks all for responding with your opinions. To each man his own. I've always stuck to what has worked in the past for me. Another looming question on my mind is how greatly fads affect our hobby or if they are just growing pains? Seems like every year people dig up new scientific research on...
I agree there is a over kill. But this thing about most of it happening in the upmost centimeters of the SB!!! Well lest just say that i would need some proof from a scientific study that the other 2-3 inches of SB was useless. Would also help me to believe if it was from a study more recent...
I have always used a DSB in my tanks but never over 3.5 inches more than that i think is over kill. A bare bottom tank in my opinion is just ugly and lets fae it we are not in this hobby to raise what we perciev as ugly.
A year ago i remember people talking about dirving days to get Southdown sand to make the perfect DSB. Now people talka s if its not the way to go. Was DSB just a fad or a solid reef keeping practice?
I recently added turbos to help battle hari algae. They are big and slow but they leave a path of clean rock where ever they go. That plus the addition of a macro algae that would comptete for resources with the hari algae might help.
What i did in my 10 gal nano for my outrageous hair algae problem was, added Turbo snails and a macro algae to compete for resources with the hair algae. Also took out rock and picked as much hair algae as possible by hand. I know that a 10 gal is smaller than your tank but in 11 days I would...
Thanks for the greeting Tangirl, though i have been around this board since around 2001 under a different name Dan81. My point with the amps thing is you can have a 240 volt something with the same amps as a 120volt something and they would both use the same amount of kilowatthours. Yet the 240...
Great adaptation skills!!!! .79 cents for a gallon of distilled water!!!!!!!
Go to Wal-Mart and see if they have a machine that has a RO filter in it that you can fill your own containers. My Wal-Mart has one and its only 34 cents a gallon 3 or 4 5-gallon buckets with lids and my 10 gal is set...
when looking for an energy effiecient pump you need to pay attention to the amp rating. The more amps it puls the more your electricity bill. The amount of watts doesnt determine the amount of electricity used. As an example flourescent tubes used in hospitals and such have the same wattage...
Today when i was doing a water change i noticed 2 worms pink with purple backs squiriming out of my live rock. Tank is about 9 months old and have never seen these before. They came out of a piece of live rock that was out of water because it was a major water change. Sorry no pics, any ideas?
