My solution was to replace the Hagen's with Maxijet's. No more bubbles, more water movement, no annoying impeller chatter at startup. Problem solved. Now I only use Hagen power heads for mixing salt.

Definatly after a water softener. The softener will remove a lot of dissolved solids that can fould up the RO membrane. I don't know any reason why anyone would install RO before the softener.
