Yea
This is alot more fun to discuss than telling someone how to control algae
So when, if ever, do you guys think the lowly consumer will see the benefit of practicing conscientous marine purchasing?
I think this is where a free market is at it's strongest. We supply the demand for...
clownfish will exist with just about anything theyre like salt water goldfish. Small tank will limit your choices though. I wouldn't get more than 3 fish. I find the other salt water creatures to be far funner though how about a coral boxer shrimp and some bumblbee snails!!
I never thought...
I have a tank raised Clown fish that I bought for 18 dollars. I consider the difference between that and a wild caught one as a donation to the preservation of our reefs.
Theyre more expensive because it is cheaper to pay a phillipine villager 10 cents to go catch one in their backyard with a...
Do a search on Southdown, it was discussed previously. here's just one of the many threads
Some people have used it in aquariums with no problems, others have found all sorts of nasty stuff in it.

I don't soak phytoplankton but i do dose it for my corals. Fish seem to drink it for a bit until it dilutes. No clue if it's harmful but they all appear to be doing fine.
Haven't seen much of talk of it on this board, but on other boards I check out some people say Instant Ocean doesn't do a great job of replicating trace elements found in natural sea water. Just thought I'd get the opinion here on it because I always find the best advice here.
But I understand...
So I've started making my own salt water recently because I was getting sick of being harassed by my LFS friends who claim "Real Hobbysists" make their own water. I had been buying it by the gallon from them previously.
My question is what salt do people prefer. I got a bag of instant ocean...
Hehe Nah
I'm sure she prefers to gripe about my laziness over at Oprah and Dr. Phil's website :P
I keep the fact I frequent this board a secret. When people ask me how I know so much I just nod wisely and smile cryptically, sometimes following this I will laugh maniacally.
To be fair, I'm...
Snip a claw! man that's mean :D
My coral shrimp is like King Lazy, he never cleans anything. Although he is apparently in love with the turkey baster i use to feed. it's funny, if I hold the baster outside the tank and move it from one side to the other, he frantically swims after it...
I asked about ribbon eels in this forum a few months ago. Was told by SeaMaiden they are very hard to keep and should only be tried by experienced marine aquarists so never tried it, her sea-Monkey icon just looks so knowledgeable :P
If it was the display tank water that was the culprit it would take longer for it to show up. Get the clown out of the main population and back into the hospital tank. Then treat it as suggested and also evaluate your hospital tank parameters as suggested. I would also suggest doing a shot of...
My first marine tank was and still is a 35 gallon hex. I'ts been pretty easy so far, I honestly don't see how everyone says its harder compared to fresh water, I've had freshwater tanks for about 10 years. Besides a little bit more maitenance, I find it as easy as a freshwater set-up. Maybe...
