  1. red acro bug cure DISCUSSION

To more or less accurately dose systems of less than several hundred gallons, one could simply dissolve a tablet in, let's say 1 liter (1,000 ml) of tank water, and than use required amount of the water containing the medication. The rest of water containing the drug can be frozen for future...
  2. Inland Reef Salt Study - Where we're going

I'm glad that Oceanic will be included in the study. There is much hype going about it right now, and I like what I’ve heard so far. I hope that quality of their salt will match that of their aquariums. :)
  3. Red Acro "Bugs" -- Looking for volunteers

Fantastic!!! Thank you, Dustin! I hope there will be no long-term effects on sandbeds (i suspect there might be one after treatment with Flatworm Exit, for example). Looking forward to hear the final outcome of the experiment.
  4. brand names you trust

    >> Skimmers: As was said, Euroreef (but they don't make a hang-on model) and AquaC (Remora and Remora Pro). >> MH lights: For a 75 G I would go with two 175W 20,000 K MHs on an electronic ballast, and skip the fluorescent/VHO lights (you can always add them later; URI VHOs on an IceCap ballast...
  5. Inland Reef Salt Study: Salt Poll

Ditto on this! The pol should've given us opportunity to vote on more than one salt. We want to see COMPARISON!
  6. Inland Reef / Reefs.org Salt Analysis Project

I second John's suggestion. It doesn't seem as we gona collect much more funds for the study :(
  7. Inland Reef / Reefs.org Salt Analysis Project

Agreed!!! And there is NO such a salt mix, unfortunately. The reason for low heavy metal concentrations in the ocean is marine organisms, which utilize/sequester/detoxify them (which happens in our tanks as well :) ).
  8. Inland Reef / Reefs.org Salt Analysis Project

Folks, Please, don't forget that we are dealing with ASW samples, not NSW. Copper level in all ASWs going to be in 100-200 ppb range, while it's 0.2-0.3 ppb in NSW. The same goes for the rest of "trace" metals: we are going to get hundreds and thousands times higher concentrations of them in...
  9. Inland Reef / Reefs.org Salt Analysis Project

Why not to do the assay exactly as Atkinson and Bingman did back in 1999 (in terms of what kind of bottles to use etc...)? Would love to hear from Craig on the subject.
  10. Inland Reef / Reefs.org Salt Analysis Project

Why don't weight 35 g of salt and dissolve it in 965 ml of DI water (which is ~965 g at room temperature)? That should give exactly 35 ppt.
  11. Inland Reef / Reefs.org Salt Analysis Project

The more I think of it, the more I'm convinced that we should do "urchin larva survival" test first (as in BEFORE we start looking for reasons why they die). If we do all the metal testing and find that ALL artificial salt mixes contain way too much heavy metals in comparison with NSW, what...
  12. Inland Reef / Reefs.org Salt Analysis Project

First of all: THANK YOU, Matt and Tom!!! Couple points: 1) I don't see ANY controversy in Inland Reef Aquaria's effort to organize this test. 2) I strongly believe that only dissolved matter should be subjected to analysis if that is possible (there is ALWAYS some undissolved matter left after...
  13. Small Conch

The article "Terrific Algae Grazers" by Dr. R.L. Shimek was published in January 2002 issue of TFH (Tropical Fish Hobbyist) magazine, p. 72-80.
  14. Small Conch

Thank you, Laura. Just updated my profile. May be it's time for me to see how things going in Iowa? :) I'm trying to find someone locally to trade/buy.
  15. Small Conch

Thank you for the link, Minderazer! Looked at IPSF's web site (it IS funny in some parts, but I wish they were more flexible on package options). Being reading old threads on IPSF's stuff too. Flatworms, Aiptasia... Have to think about ordering from them. Will try to find Conch of interest...
