For what it's worth I've been using distilled water for almost 5 years with no problem. Used it from two different places. First was a local grocery store that gave me bulk discounts that went out of business. Now just using Wal-mart brand. Cheapest I can find.
I'll second the mag drive one. I've been running one for about 5 years and still going strong. Can even find them a bit cheaper than that price on rios.
My hardest time was with feather calurpa. Basically I had a 20 gal that got quite of bit of cyano. So I upgraded the lights and then got dinos. So did all the bit for them. Leaving off lights/etc. Finally broke down and through some feather calurpa in there and got rid of the dinos but the...
The numbers look a little high in my opinion. The bulbs can be had for around 30ish each. Salt you should be able to find 160-200 gal buckets for around $50-60. If your LFS is charging you $44 for 50 gal of salt then you need to check out the sponsors link or try petsolutions.com. Also for a...
Basically I would not say that I was unlucky... just that if you actually got a pair of maroons from putting 2 juvies in a tank then you're just extremely lucky. If pairing maroons in this manner were as common as you seem to suggest then the book 'Clownfishes' by Joyce D Wilkerson wouldn't...
Don't put 2 juvenile maroons together. They will be out for blood. Worst fighting I've ever had in a tank was the one time I tried this. Yes I knew the way you're sup'd to pair off maroons but went to an LFS and they had like 6 in a tank. Got the whole story about how they're tank raised and...
I was able to get rid of dino out of a 20 gal by using feather calurpa. Been a few years but seems like I left the lights out for around a week and didn't work. The calurpa did the trick pretty quick. Only problem was the calupra then took over the tank. :) But with a lot of scrubbing...
Not sure I've ever seen actual numbers for acclimating anemones but 15 min temp only seems a bit crazy imo. I would say a good 1.5-2 hours would be a good time and definately adding water whether by drip or other method. Not sure what it is with people anymore and rushing acclimation nowadays...
For fish I like Scott W Michael's 'Marine Fishes 500+ Essential-to-Know Aquarium Species'. Contains just about all the fish you'll find for sale and is fairly cheap.
I have a pair of maroons and a flame angel. Flame was in around a year longer than the clowns and clowns were smaller than flame. But a year later they still don't like each other. I really wouldn't worry about that much actual fighting from them cause both seem to know how to take care of...
Jandree - ya could have thrown in a pic of the brazilian gramma. Now I gotta look for one. :)
Anyway here's a couple links.

Royal Gramma - http://fins.actwin.com/species/index.php?t=9&i=103
I mainly stick to cerinths for snails. Not the eaters that turbos are but don't knock things over either and are extremely low maintenance. Once a tank is established you don't have to worry about the hermits being able to take care of a dead turbo. The bristleworms will make quick work of...
Kinda makes me wonder if it's actually a royal gramma. Most books list them as rather peaceful fish and I know the one I've had for almost 5 years is only aggressive when something else pesters it. Seen more than one LFS misidentify brazilian grammas as royal grammas and they're supposedly...
Besides the nitrates maybe being a little on the high side, one thing that caught my eye was the temp. If that was 70 then it seems a bit on the low side to me. Could try slowly raising it to around 75ish. Other than that I noticed my frowspawn receding once when my salinity creeped up a bit...
