I just read in Sprung and Delbeek that zenia starts to pulse when there is not enough water movement around it. The pulsing creates movement in the water to replace the lack of it in the environment. So, you may have stumbled upon a good thing. Maybe your current shifted or dropped and now you have pulsing - something that is aesthetically pleasing.
