These are all over my tank in areas that are shaded from light. This pic is from the glass behind where the overflow sits. It's also took over an area of my sump that does not have light and the shaded areas on the LR.

Heads on my frogspawn are dying. The heads turn into a brown slime and die, the slime then spreads and kills neighboring heads.

I'm also battling a major outbreak of cyano. I have cheato in my sump that has become smothered with cyano. I removed all the cheato and bio balls since they too were collecting cyano, from my sump.

Tank is 4 months old.
Specific Gravity = 1.025
Phosphate = 0.25 mg/L
Calcium = < 300 (I am now using Seachem Reef Complete to raise this)
Nitrates < 10

Used Hydrometer and Hager test kit.

The first picture looks like sponge. I have tons of this stuff. Eventually it grows a pretty lacey looking stalk. It's OK.

Not sure about your frogspawn.

Cyano is a bummer. I couldn't get rid of mine when I first started. Everyone kept saying get more flow.

Thanks Leslie...

Forgot to mention my flow. It consists of (2) Maxijet 900, The return from the sump with is a Mag 9.5, and a Rio 1400 attached to a Remora skimmer.

Since this pass week I added 3 cups of HBH activated carbon to the sump.

Tank size is 55 gallons with a 10 gallon sump.

I figure the cause of the cyano was over feeding my fish, flakes 2x and half a frozen cube a day. I've since changed feedings to flakes one time a day. It has been three weeks and things are getting worst.

I am going to up my water change to 10 gallons once a week from 5 gallons every other week.

I had cyano before I was even feeding my fish. You may be overfeeding, but I honestly think it is part of setting up a new tank.

Leslie,
How were you able to rid your tank of cyano?

I'm also going to test the phosphate levels again, everything is pointing to that for my cyano outbreak.

I also have another problem, ph has been around 8 but has risen to as high as 9 in the pass 1 1/2 weeks.

I think you started to introduce the wrong corals at the wrong time. If i would be you i would start with zoos and mushrooms. I think your phospate level is too high and that is why you are getting this. Are you using anything to control your phospate level? And regarding the pH fluctuating like that I know that isnt good but i dont know what you should do about it never had such a problem like that. What kind of water are you using? Regular tap, or RO/DI?

When was the last time you calibrated the PH meter?
Are you skimming that tank? What skimmer are you using if you are?
Are you running carbon? If not start running some, along with some phosphate removal media, and get some flow in that tank in the areas where you have the cyano.

Ozone, The only thing in my tank for the first 3 months was live rock. I was not feeding my tank, and all nutrient levels were on target including phosphates and nitrates. I ended up using chemicals to get rid of the cyano as their was no risk of killing anything.

That said, I should have identified the problem before treating the symptom.

I'm using a Remora pro with a Rio 1400. I am getting dark, thick skimmage with it.

I'm currently dosing Seachem reef complete to raise calcium.

To eliminate phosphates I am going to pick these up.

I'm also considering these poly filters. Are they any good?

Another suggestion for you. STOP DOSING ANYTHING. Keep the skimming going, Carbon, and FLOW needed, keep the reactor idea going and forget about the poly pad.

Actually Crox I was going to suggest 10% of water for 10 days straight but it seems that the tank may still be doing some sort of cycle so I refrained.
