So I bought some live rock from another member to cycle a new tank , I picked it up and it was already In a bucket with a wet paper towel on it. He said it sat out of the water only for a few hours. Some pieces had some nice coraline algae on it but now it's about 2 weeks later and some of the purple algae is now turning white and there is this green and white strands of what looks like grass growing on the rock. Is this some kind of infectious algae? I don't want to start adding corals and fish if this rock is infected. I did notice a baby featherduster coming out of one if the rocks which is cool.

looks like some of the purple is just dying off and you are getting some hair algae of some kind. this is not really unusual when going through a cycle and unless it gets out of control I would not worry to much about at this point. most tanks when cycling will go through some sort of bloom

Thanks a lot, it got me worried that I had an algae problem and I was even thinking about killing the rock and starting over. I'm about to add a damsel to the tank just yonder how it does. The ammonia is at 0 so I guess the tank cycled already.

What's all over lol, the cycling or the algae..... It's only been running for 2 weeks. I guess the live crushed coral, and live rock work a lot faster then regular uncured rock and regular live sand
