This really amazing paper (https://core.ac.uk/download/pdf/78071687.pdf), published six years ago, examines the microbial communities of a healthy, natural reef ecosystem--sampling from several different reef niches. At least be sure to check out Fig.1, which lists the Top 18 microbial genera in each seawater niche metagenome:
According to the Smithsonian Institute, there may be as many as a hundred different species of bacteria in a single drop of seawater. Yet, purple bacteria comprised one third of this short list, most of which were purple non-sulfur bacteria (PNSB). Rhodopseudomonas (the PNSB in PNS ProBio™) made it into the top ten genera of this reef niche metagenome! We believe this underscores the importance of this bacterium in healthy reef aquaria.
