This is a very hard fish to keep, most don't eat, or just eat live food, and eventually they starve to death. They also need a good size tank with very peaceful tank mates.

but is it reef safe? and it would be going into a 90 gal with a maroon clown, pink skunk clown, yellow damsel (on his way out when i catch it) blue damsel, scooter blenny and mandrin

Most sweetlips, including the Harlequin Sweetlips, grow very large (at least 24 inches) and are carnivorous. They don't eat corals but would likely feed on any small crustaceans or small fish they could get in their mouths as they grow. Although that makes them technically "reef safe" they are highly impractical to keep in a reef. It would be like keeping a Largemouth Bass with Neon Tetras.

Had one for a long time. You can have them in a reef that is very large. But it will eat anything that fits in it mouth. Small fish. snails shrimp etc etc, In other words thing we like to keep in a reef tank. Like clean up crews. I know people that have never had luck keeping one. I must have been lucky.

True, better left in the ocean. That being said I bought mine from a LFS that said it would be perfect in a 54 corner tank. I have had one for ab 4 yrs. It has survived an upgrade and never bothered corals, although I have seen it take food from my duncans. My fish eats everything and is healthy (knock on wood!) never a bad day. I will, one day, give it away when it gets too big but I have a couple more years b4 that. If it eats some hermits or snails I wouldn't care - they're supposed to, I will buy more. I am very happy w/ 'Dottie"
The first pic is her baby picture - second is 3.5 yrs later
