Hey all,

I purchase my water everyweek

I buy
3 gallons of salt &
3 gallons of R/O

I put Each in 5 gallon buckets.

I normally get home and put a maxijet in the salt bucket and one in the ro water bucket.

For the salt
I put a maxijet and heater In the salt for a night and I do my water change the following morning.

For the RO unmixed water

I put a maxijet 1200 in the bucket and leave it all week and add my top off from the bucket every night.

Do I need to keep the water moving? The maxi really heats up the water which is a pain in the ass and it's obviously more flow than needed.. The guy at the lfs said to keep the water moving.

Is there away around using a pump? Can the water just be sealed and be fine? Would a air tube be fine?

That is BS just drip it instead of pouring it in.

Just keep it in a closed container and out of sunlight and you will be fine. And depending on the size of your heater, you shouldn't need to heat the water all night. I let mine set over night and get to room temp and then for the 5 gallons I do swap out it takes about an hour to heat.

for the r/o water i dont think you would need water movement because your not adding much of it anyway. As for the salt water, i would use a powerhead or air pump before chaning the water, stagnent water isn't as well oxygenated (doesn't have to be overnight, like 15-20mins)

Dont bother with a powerhead in the RO water. By the way, you can buy an RO unit for under $200 that has a 2.5 Gallon storage tank which goes under your sink. That way your corals, fish and family can all be healthy without you having to spend money on water each week.

Hey all thanks for the replys guys

Really makes me wonder! Why would they tell me to not let the water get stagnant and keep moving. I asked on multiple occasions and they told me it must stay moving or it's only good for a day or two. Maybe they said this to me so I keep coming back and increases my odds of spending money at their store? At first I felt buying my own ro and salt would be fine but more and more I'm starting to feel differently

my problems: small place, bathroom sink doesn't have anywhere underneath for storage and my other bathroom and kitchen sink has had issues in the past with the plumbing. I know we have went through a couple of plumbers to relieve our minor leek issues in the past 5-6 years. The women of the house would simply not go for it and don't even want to start a commotion.

Now that I know I don't need flow I should be ok. I didn't like the wires running across floors to keep the water going. I'm getting a top off this week so I should be putting the container in the stand and out of way.

My wife complained at first, but when she realized that we would have filtered drinking water she was VERY happy. Now that we have kind of moved she keeps asking me to get another RO and she hates the taste of unfiltered water.

Plumbing it is not that big of a deal. If you dont have a friend that can do it for free, you can get someone to do it for a few bucks...

+1 RO tastes much better I keep mine in the basement and I drink it all the time.

I used to buy premixed from my LFS until one guy there talked me out of it. Lower quality salt and unknown composition. Plus if it leaks in your car on the way home you are screwed. Salt water rusts cars quickly.

I would by all RO and some salt and mix your own. That way you know what you put in your tank. JMHO.
