There are, for the most part, two types of equipment in this hobby:

a) quality equipment that has a good track record, with a very low record of failure.
b) questionably equipment that has a reputation for failure, with a few exception of success.

Odyssea stuff would be in group B. If you use the search function for "Odyssea" in this website, or any website for that matter, you'll see many supporting my claim. From personal experience, the ballast on a lighting fixture I bought from them cracked and melted and I was lucky to have spotted it before any harm was done.

There are no equipments that are 100% successful with 0% failure. You work out the cost vs failure vs safety, etc. Choose wisely and good luck.

I personally think their metal halide fixtures aren't bad, especially if you swap out the ballast and bulb. I see it as this, whether it's brand name metal or a cheaper brands metal, the frame of the light is all the same $h*t so why spend so much extra money for a metal frame. I used the skimmer once and yeah I have to say that's no good and same with the pumps.

Still expensive though ... quality ballasts aren't cheap ... and with the amount you spent on the original fixture to just toss the equipment that came with it. Just buy a better unit.

BTW how is your 24" LED fixture R4L? :)

What is the point in going out and buying something new only to have to replace the parts with quality party, if that's the case buy a good one from the start and get your money's worth that way.

I guess....but um the 24" LED fixture is good, thanks for asking. I don't know if I really need it though, it's cool and all but it might be too much for me plus it's a 24" and I have a 48" tank and a 24" refugium type tank and to have it on a tank of that kind is kind of unnecessary. I still can't believe I won it though lol
